Well London Phase 2 update

Joy Kahumbu is the new coordinator for the second phase of the Well London health improvement project which will be running across the whole of Woodberry Down over the next year. Joy has been a Hackney resident for 27 years. She’s had an interesting career, from originally working in the creative arts with photography and ceramics, to now working for NHS North East London and the City (formerly City and Hackney Primary Care Trust).

Health improvement provides individuals and communities with information about factors that affect their wellbeing, and enabling them to develop the skills to make positive changes if they wish. Some of these changes will be obvious like giving up smoking, reducing salt use, increasing levels of physical activity. Others are less so such as environmental changes like growing wild flowers.

Joy says: ‘I'm very excited to be involved in Well London Phase 2 at Woodberry Down because it will bring together many of my interests and skills, including meeting and talking to people; creativity; the great outdoors….if you see me wandering about, please come up and say hello, I'll be very pleased to meet you.’

Meet The Professionals – Linklaters

Woodberry Works Club and East London Business Alliance brought five staff from global law firm Linklaters to The Redmond Community Centre for a day in August. The day was born out of the Woodberry Works’ aim of bringing in outside experts to complement the Woodberry Works Club’s ongoing training and employability services.

Twelve people accessed services such as a CV surgery and learned about interview techniques which they then practised in mock interviews. They also asked the professionals burning questions in a Q&A session.

The participants said they felt very positive about the day and that the activities had increased their confidence in looking for work.
The workshop had the added benefit of introducing new local people to the Woodberry Works Club.
