Please welcome our new Corporate Lifetime sponsor, Castle Rock Oral and Facial Surgery! Located conveniently near Target they offer complete scope of oral and maxillofacial services using the latest techniques. They also speak Spanish and French for customers' convenience. Check them out today!

The museum is currently preparing an exhibit on the many founders of Castle Rock that the streets have been named after. We will have this available for the 15th anniversary celebration on 18 August. We are also displaying an exhibit on the history of bicycling in this area. Castle Rock has and continues to add bicycle trails so we think it should be of high local interest.

Work on the grant which we received from the State Historical fund with support from the town, to restore the windows of the museum is progressing. Contract bid documents were approved by the state this quarter. We are in position to begin work in the third quarter. Thus far it appears that the impact to the museum can be minimized so that we can remain open to the public during the restoration.

Historic Douglas County hosted CRHS and our partner historical societies from  Larkspur, Parker and Sedalia at the Douglas County Fair. We all brought activities to attract attention to the booth. We wore historical outfits and displayed a bike from the Castle Rock Adventist Hospital's Free Cycle program. We had lots of interest in the free bicycle rental and it gave us the opportunity to talk about the heritage walking and bike tours. We gave out cards about the bike rental program and Parks and Rec. maps.

Miss Larkspur came in with Dana Hammling of the Larkspur Historical Society and she took some photos with the bike, look for them on Facebook! Join us with Miss Larkspur at the next bike tour on August 25. Be sure and join us! If you don't have a bike then reserve a Free Cycle from CastleRockFreeCycle.com. The rentals are free for up to four hours! A big Thank You to Castle Rock Adventist hospital for sponsoring this great program for Castle Rock!

We displayed the Museum's historical marker for "Then and Now-Holding History in your Hand" and told folks about it. They liked it, and several people scanned the QR code and brought up the Museum's page in the marker program. The Marker program is progressing well. We've completed the research phase wherein the Society is partnering with the Town Historical Preservation Board to write up intriguging stories based upon our joint research.

We met with Greater Castle Rock Arts Guild Director Ellie Ludvigsen to see where we can collaborate. There are several things we can do together. Ideas include youth art which combines deconstructed technology to represent historical objects, historical art in modern techniques, cross cultural historical art projects, designing an art bike rack for us, opening the Museum grounds and Museum to students for inspiration, photography, drawing and other kinds of art, and possibly a community arts event.

The movie, "Victorian Cyclng-Wheels of Change"  bicycling documentary on July 23 was well attended. We learned that early bicycle speedsters were called "Scorchers," and they tore up and down the streets of Denver scaring the horses. A fun event for early Denver cyclists was to take the train to the Palmer Divide and ride the bicycles back to Denver. Again we thank  Dan Reilley and 6202Cycling.org for their support of the bike program.
