Moving in

Southern Wesleyan University welcomed approximately 200 new students to its campus in Central Aug. 17. Orientation activities were held throughout the weekend.

SWU Supports United Way
Double and 20. These are SWU’s goals for its United Way of Pickens County Pacesetter Campaign: 1) doubling the number of employee participants (donors); and 2) increasing the dollar amount we raise by 20 percent – all by September 10

Every Gift Matters. Consider this...

  • $1 a week provides membership materials for three girls who couldn’t otherwise afford to join the Girl Scouts
  • $5 a week provides life-saving medication for someone in need
  • $12 a week provides for an Order of Protection for 52 victims of domestic violence
  • $13 a week provides nine weeks of parenting classes for a struggling parent
  • $15 a week provides one month of home care services for a senior citizen
  • $20 a week provides home delivered meals for a senior citizen for an entire year

While Double and 20 has been set as a short-term goal, we are also planning least one service project and one university-wide fundraiser throughout the remainder of the academic year. Take five minutes now to review UWPC’s informational brochure and to complete the Pledge Form (for one-time gifts or payroll deduction). To designate a donation to a United Way outside of Pickens County or to a specific partner agency, please complete the Individual Donor Choice Form. Send completed forms to Dana Frost in HR, SWU Box 1957. For details, contact Dana Frost at dfrost@swu.edu or Daryl Couch at dcouch@swu.edu.

Payroll deduction can benefit students
As we start the fall semester, now is a great time to support the students by a payroll deduction to the Annual Promise Fund. The “Promise” is a prayerful challenge to do whatever we can to help students with financial need. The employee goal is $40,000. Prayerfully consider helping move SWU forward this fiscal year financially by filling out this form and returning it to Mary Costello in the development office. In addition to helping students, there are exciting projects going on that benefit from your support; the NCAA initiative; Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center; the Golf practice driving range and those one-of-a-kind gifts listed in the catalog of needs. Contact Mary with any questions you may have at mcostello@swu.edu or call ext. 5014.

Chapel Checkers needed
The Spiritual Life office still needs faculty and staff members to take attendance in chapel. This is open to any employee who would be willing and available to help. There is a need of five people to help scan in students on Mondays and five people for Wednesdays. They are also looking for four people to fill in as needed for both Monday and Wednesday. Especially appreciated are employees who can sign up for the whole semester – Mondays, Wednesdays, or both. They also need four people to help during special chapel events other than regular chapel days and times. Click here for the form or e-mail Fran Finch at ffinch@swu.edu with your response by August 20.
