An Update From Joe & Anna

August 17, 2012

Summer of 2012

One of my goals heading into this summer was to have a total of 250 students in our eight camps. We had a few smaller camps this year and ended up with 216 students. Another goal I had for this summer was that half of the students who came to camp not knowing Jesus as their Lord and Savior would put their faith in Him that week. Over 70 students indicated in their camp surveys that they had put their faith in Christ during camp!!! INCREDIBLE. A true reason to celebrate! And since discipleship isn't a one time event, there is much more work to be done after camp. Thank you for praying and for being a key part of what God did this summer! Let's continue to pray...

180

This email goes out to around 180 people across the planet. How cool would it be to know that you were praying with 180 other people around the globe specifically for God's movement in Latvia? I am seeing more and more that God responds to His people when we pray and act in faith. Our busiest season of the year has ended and God did amazing things! And we don't want Him to stop. So because of that I'm challenging myself to continue to ask Him to work!

2 Minutes

How can you continue to play a key role in what God is doing in Latvia? I'll answer that question with another question... Do you have two minutes to spare each day? If you answered "no," do me and the people around you a favor and take a lonnnnnggggg vacation (haha)! But if you answered "yes," would you consider spending a few minutes each day to pray for the movement of God in Latvia? I know many of you pray for us consistently and have others to pray for, but would you consider a commitment of 2-5 minutes a day (as you drink your coffee or brush your teeth) to ask God to do a mighty work in Latvia this next year? Your prayers will continue to be a huge blessing to us!

I'm Learning

Throughout the summer God has been teaching me that He rarely works how I want Him to. He operates on His own infinitely wise "timetable." I've been reading through the Psalms over the past few weeks and have been struck by how often the Psalmists seemed to beg God to work mightily. And He answered! Though not usually how and when they wanted Him to.

I moved to Latvia almost five years ago with a desire to see a movement of God among the youth of Latvia and I am thankful for the many glimpses of what He is doing "below the surface." But I have honestly battled with discouragement at times because God was not doing what I wanted Him to do. He was moving, just not how and when I wanted Him to. I wanted to see an amazing and obvious movement of God's Spirit all across Latvia... and at times it looks anything but amazing. But I still believe He is working out His plan. And I have to continually trust that it is good. Though His work often appears "slow," it is unstoppable. As the Psalmists frequently recounted God's works on behalf of His people, I have been reminded of the equally "slow" and amazing things God has done in my life over the past five years... much less, what He has been doing all across Latvia! As I look back, my focus shifts off of what I want Him to do and instead onto trusting that He knows exactly what needs to be done and when. I have seen over and over again that His timing is perfect and I am blessed to be a small part of His amazing plan! He is amazing, isn't He?
