CCTV Broadcast Schedule
 SCC programs can be seen on CCTV, Comcast Cable Channel 21, for two weeks starting the Wednesday after the meeting at 6 PM, Thursdays at 4:30 PM,Fridays at 7 PM, and again Saturdays at 1 PM.


 Salem City Club’s

5th Congressional District Debate:

Lugo, Schrader and Thompson

 
Salem City Club is pleased to host a debate between the three candidates seeking to represent Oregon's 5th congressional district in U.S. House of Representatives.  Join us on Friday, September 7 at noon when we open our 45th season with this dynamic program.  Congressional District 5 encompasses Tillamook, Lincoln, Polk, Marion, and Clackamas counties, rural, metro, coastal, and suburban neighborhoods.

 
 
 
Christina Jean Lugo is a peace activist and twenty-year member of the Green Party.  As a member of the Oregon Pacific Green Party she serves as Secretary.  Lugo has worked as a journalist and editor at the Tennessee Independent Media Center and as a producer in independent radio and television. Lugo currently serves on the Clackamas Cable Access Board. Her prior government experience includes candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee, and candidacy for the Oregon 5th District U.S. House of Representatives seat in 2010.  Lugo’s educational background includes the University of Minnesota and Macalester College.  A resident of Oregon City, Christina is married to her partner Beverly Thomas and together they run a small gardening service in Metro Portland.
 
Congressman Kurt Schrader is currently serving his second term in the United States House of Representatives. He represents Oregon's 5th Congressional District.  Before being elected to Congress, Schrader was a farmer and veterinarian for over thirty years.  In 1996, Schrader was elected to the Oregon State House of Representatives. There he served as a member of the Joint Ways & Means Committee. Schrader was elected to the Oregon State Senate in 2003 and was immediately appointed to chair the Joint Ways & Means Committee. He continued to serve in that capacity until he was elected to U.S. Congress in 2008. Schrader currently serves as a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, House Committee on Small Business and serves as ranking member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Finance and Tax.  He attended Cornell University where he received his BA in Government in 1973. He received his veterinary degree from the University of Illinois in 1977.
 
 
Fred Thompson holds a B.S. degree from Linfield College and an Executive MBA from Pepperdine University. He attended Lane Community college and earned an Electrician licensure and Welding certification. He has more than 35 years experience in the agricultural, energy, and wood products industries, and his current occupation is as Team Leader/Pulp & Paper, for EnergyPro-USA. He has past experience as President/CEO of Isobord Enterprises, a manufacturing facility. Mr. Thompson has prior governmental experience as a member of the Junction City School Board Budget Committee, 1984 to 1986. He is a Vietnam Veteran and was stationed with the 101st Airborne division. He lives in Marion County with his family.
