COLAB UPDATE - Moving Onward and Upward
We are very pleased to announce that CoLab and the Interdisciplinary Unit of the Faculty of Design and Creative technologies at AUT will be merging to create a new entity -  called CoLab. The co-directors are Associate Professor, Charles Walker and Associate Professor, Frances Joseph.

The new CoLab and will engage with research and development, teaching, learning and building relationships with industry and community stakeholders in areas of creative technologies, design and innovation, creative entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary practices.

We are very excited at the potential of bringing these two organisations together and building on existing momentum. In December 2012 CoLab, including the Marker workshop programme, will be moving to new accommodation on levels 10 and 11 of the new WG building in Mayoral Drive.

NEW DIGITAL ART LIVE EXHIBITION - Crowd Control by Gregory Bennett
Crowd Control
By Gregory Bennett in association with Johann Nortje
Digital Art Live | Level 2, Aotea Centre

Crowd Control gives the audience the opportunity to interact with real-time 3D animated figures that are walking, running and gesticulating. A floor sensor detects the audience’s movement and triggers the variations of movements of the figures on the screen.
From seemingly random movements to highly choreographed formations, the work reflects on issues such as the individual versus group dynamics, crowd behaviours and figures as automaton.

Gregory Bennett is an artist engaged with digitally generated and animated groups of moving 3D generic figures, and Johann Nortje specialises in video-based production design for installations, theatre and live interactive performance media.

CALL - 'Out of Balance' Design Competition

Humantific is delighted to announce an international competition collaboration with Magazine ARCH+ and Bauhaus Dessau Foundation:
OUT OF BALANCE - CRITIQUE OF THE PRESENT: Information Design after Otto Neurath.

The Topic: "Societal processes are presently emerging that make a balancing of social inequalities ever more unlikely and that pose a serious danger that society will drift apart, both on the global and national level and on the regional and local level. People are born into socio-spatial circumstances. Their chances in life vary in the extreme because of this “randomness”. In the interest of social integration and in accordance with democracy’s postulate of equality, modern societies embody the promise of an equalization of living circumstances. This is a guarantee for the political stability of a community. So it is not only permitted, but clearly necessary to ask about the fulfillment of this political desideratum..."

Prize Money: 20,000 Euros!

Registration deadline: November 20, 2012.
Submission deadline: January 31, 2013.
