True Perspectives Seminar:  Georgia Legislative Issues

On July 12, Dr. Robert R. Friedmann, shared his views on the Middle East to a full house of members and guests at the Plantation Ballroom. His theme was “Connecting the Dots” and the “Zebra Syndrome.”  He is a director of the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange and Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice at Georgia State University,
Connecting the Dots
As early as September 2000, it was evident from the “spontaneous” riots over Ariel Sharon’s visit to the Temple Mount controlled by Islamists that trouble was brewing in the Middle East portended by growing danger to the existence of the State of Israel. Click for more.

Upcoming True Perspectives:
September 8 - The Economic Issues for November

This is a special breakfast meeting, Saturday, September 8 at 8:00 A.M. in the Plantation Ballroom. The speaker will be Patrick Fleming, of Caldwell & Orkin, a premier financial services firm in Atlanta.

Mr. Fleming will discuss Fed policy (in the era of 0% interest rates), the current macro economic outlook, the “fiscal cliff”, and how the Presidential election is impacted by the markets and the economy as the most significant issue. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a person who drills down into these issues all day every day, as he posits the potential November outcomes.

So set aside a little of your Saturday morning. Start with a delicious, full breakfast buffet. Follow that with solid information on the economy and it’s portent for the election. As a bonus, take away some personal investment clues in this environment.

Price for this session is just $10 for SIRC members and guests. Everyone is welcome. PLEASE NOTE: We must have accurate numbers for the food preparation, so RSVP by September 6 to Jack Kaster @ 598-7714 or kasjac@bellsouth.net.

October 2 - An Insider’s View of Afghanistan

David Simons, President of Simons Political Group, will make the presentation. He served as a senior Public Affairs Officer for NATO in Afghanistan. As such, he sat in on General Petraeus’ morning briefings. He also hosted visits by Ollie North, Diane Sawyer, Brett Baier and the Secretary of Defense. This promises to be a most informational and anecdotally rich meeting. Don’t miss it!

It starts at 5:00pm on Tuesday, October 2, at the Plantation Club. Costs: $5 per person for SIRC members: $10 for non-members. RSVP to Jack Kaster at 598-7714 or kasjac@bellsouth.net.

Romney Fundraiser in Savannah – August 9

At the Charles H. Morris Center, 10 East Broad Street, in Savannah, on August 9, a fundraiser for a Romney victory was hosted by our Congressman Jack Kingston and the Romney Campaign’s Georgia Finance Chairman Eric Tannenblatt of Atlanta.  Jack Kingston introduced the honored guest Governor Mike Huckabee who lauded Jack as believing in the right stuff – conservative principles – and actually delivering on them in his everyday performance in Congress.

Huckabee is every bit as engaging in person as he is on his regular show on Fox News Network, highlighting his own path to success from very humble beginnings in his native Arkansas.  Click for more.

Beer and Brats – October 22

The Beer, Brats and Politics rally this year is on Monday, October 22, 2012, starting at 5:30 pm at the Plantation Club Ballroom. Local Republican candidates will be there and available to answer questions and hear your opinions on important local issues.

Members pay $12 per person and non-members $20. Beer, brats, soft drinks and other food are included in the entry fee. Other alcoholic drinks will be from a member bar. Hope to see you Monday, October 22. Invite some non-members as well for this social event and to introduce them to the SIRC family as possible future members. New members can join now and pay the member rate and the dues will cover all of 2013 as well. Regular memberships are $40 a year and Sustaining memberships $100 a year.

For reservations or more information, please email Mary Ann Senkowski at masenkowski @ gmail.com or call at 598-0493. Checks in advance made out to SIRC should be dropped at Courtney Neely’s mail tube at 30 Tidewater Way.

Mailings of SIRC Newsletters

Virtually all of our readers got the hard copy version of the July newsletter about two weeks after we expected the receipt. Query of the post office revealed that Savannah is experiencing a change in procedure, now involving the use of Jacksonville, Florida as a central clearing house instead of one much closer to here. This adds an element of delay not heretofore contemplated.

Without fully knowing what fiscal constraints are now facing the postal service and motivating their change in procedure, we can only speculate that slower rather than faster service is in the offing.  This will apparently also be true for true first class mailings as well as pre-sorted standard delivery which is what we had been using.
