Hot Dogs

For years we hear little of canines save a few apocryphal tales of distant dens and equally distant dogs. These ‘painted wolves’ may lack the size or indeed beauty of leopards or lions but lack nothing in terms of courage, loyalty and indeed hunting skills. However, they have county-sized ranges and were almost wiped out through persecution and illness over the past twenty years.

Permit some indulgence then: in the space of a couple of days last week they were spotted in three areas in the Mara and Laikipia, Andrew’s shot probably being the pick of the litter.

Kicheche, going to the dogs again, you couldn’t make it up.
