We have art. You're invited.

Einstein MamaCita Art

Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, the first new hospital built from the ground up in Southeastern Pennsylvania in more than a decade, will be home to 44 new works of art by eleven MamaCita members. Corridors and other public spaces will be lined with art selected for its visual serenity and regional relevance – pastoral outdoor scenes of Pennsylvania’s landscape that support the healing process. The 44 works will now be permanently installed in this new green designed hospital. Our art explores the concept of "Beginnings" examining hopeful, positive themes.

We invite you to view the art at the Einstein Medical Center Montgomery Community Day, Sept. 22.  1PM – 5 PM. Community is invited to tour the facility and receive health information. There will also be family activities and refreshments.

Glenside Mural Completed

Kimberly Mehler Mura;

Member Kimberly Mehler has completed her mural on the Keswick Avenue SEPTA Underpass in Glenside, PA. Kimberly is a strong believer in the power of public art projects to strengthen communities. The themes of this mural are connected communites and green space symbolized by intertwining roots and branches. The project is  funded by the PA Council on the Arts, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, and the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.

The town of Glenside is split between the townships of Abington and Cheltenham. The blending of colors and intertwining roots and branches symbolize the two themes reflected in this mural: that of connected communities and green spaces. Community members came out to help paint on June 2, and all ages were represented, from the elementary school girl scouts to the middle and high school students, to interested neighbors living near the underpass and retired community members and artists as well. That first day was a success, and Kimberly continued to work through June and July.

We are so proud to announce that Member Heather Devlin Knopf earned her Master of Fine Arts in Illustration this past July, 2012. Knopf completed a Low Residency graduate program at the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. Her thesis was based upon a children's book that she both wrote and illustrated.

One Year

One Year artists Janice Hayes-Cha, Brenda Howell, Karen Hunter McLaughlin, Julie Mann & Kimberly Mehler have had a creative and busy summer. We want to thank everyone who donated to One Year by either creating a vessel or taking part in our successful USA Project fund raiser. With your help we were able to raise $12,000! All of the funds raised will be used for the One Year project, part of which will go to support our inspiring collaborators- Mother's in Charge.

We are proud to announce that we have lined up a venue for this ambitious installation work. We'll be spilling the exciting news on where and when (and some other secret news) in an upcoming newsletter. Stay tuned.

A special thank you one of our new members, Michelle Ciarlo-Hayes for creating our beautiful thank you cards. We had a few issues with the USA Projects online site. So if you made an online donation to One Year and you haven't gotten one of these beautiful cards, drop us a line at kamcl@mamacitaarts.com. Michelle Ciarlo Hayes
