WEBINAR:  Introduction to LANDFIRE's vegetation & fire-related spatial data for the US

September 18, 2012

10:00AM PST

“Introduction to LANDFIRE’s vegetation and fire-related spatial data for the US.” Kori Blankenship, LANDFIRE fire ecologist, will describe LANDFIRE spatial products and demonstrate their utility for on-the-ground applications on large landscapes.

Summary: This presentation will introduce you to LANDFIRE, a program that produces wall-to-wall vegetation and fire-related spatial data for the entire U.S. LANDFIRE (www.landfire.gov), goes way beyond fire with more than 20 geospatial layers that have proven useful for conservation planning and land management activities. The datasets span the US and include vegetation type, cover and height, vegetation condition, successional stage and historical fire regime to name a few. The data are delivered in raster format (30m cell size) and are available for free online (http://landfire.cr.usgs.gov/viewer/). LANDFIRE products were designed to work at national, regional and large sub-regional landscapes but tools and guidance are available to help users review and modify the data as needed for finer scale applications. This presentation will describe the LANDFIRE spatial products and demonstrate their utility in a variety of conservation applications.
