October Update

Greetings from Botswana!

As I mentioned last month, I started Bible school and we're already a month away from closing this term. I've enjoyed being back in school again. I have final exams coming up and papers due next week so please pray I prepare well and pass with flying colors!

Youth Braai (BBQ)I've taken a lot more involvement with the youth group at my church. I've always had a heart for youth ministry and this is one area I again feel drawn to invest my time in out here. About half of our church congregation is children and youth. Many of them come to church on their own, without their parents, so focusing on really discipling these kids is a top priority in our church - our hope and prayer is that they can be a light to their parents and families and bring them to Christ. In December, we'll be holding a youth camp for the kids. Please pray that God provides the means/finances for all our youth to attend and that it is a life-changing experience for them. This month we also had the opportunity to attend a Scripture Union (sort of like a Bible Club) at a local high school. Schools out here, public and private, are open to having us come in and speak to students about God. This is our first meeting and we hope to get into more schools and make it a regular thing. It's a great opportunity to be a light in our community as well as encourage/disciple the Christian students in our schools.

I continue to teach a weekly computer class for our church's home school group. It's been a huge challenge for me, mainly because we only have one computer and I have 15 students. Please pray for provision for more computers. Also pray I have the wisdom to teach my students well. I'm currently teaching the students how to type. They are eager to learn, but it's difficult for them to improve when I can only give each student 3-5 minutes once a week on the computer.

I'm grateful for your prayers and support! You share a part in all the work I do here! Ke a leboga (thank you)!

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town

This month I took a short trip to the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. Besides taking in the many breathtaking sites in the city, I was able to visit with my cousin Janess who was there on business, as well as with my dear friend Lauren Scott who is working with Campus Crusade for Christ in Cape Town. I couldn't get over the beauty of this city - it actually reminded me a lot of my hometown of San Diego. It was a fun, refreshing trip and it was exciting to see the familiar faces of dear friends and family!
Buckley Family

The Buckleys

I wanted to introduce you to the missionary family I'm living and working with during my time in Botswana, the Buckelys - Matt, his wife Kristin and their two sons, Madison and Anderson. They've been missionaries in Botswana for over 20 years and founded Light of the World Ministries, which includes a thriving local church here in Francistown, Botswana, as well as a Bible Tranining Center, and a private Christian academy. I'm excited to be a part of their ministry and glean from their experiences on the mission field! They're such an amazing family and they've already been such a huge blessing to me!
