King Harvest has surely come

Happy fall, everybody!  The temperatures and the leaves are changing in Ithaca, NY, and it's time for another update.

I've spent much of the last few weeks recharging from the long process of recording, releasing, and promoting the new record, Songs to Make You Wealthier and More Attractive.  Hopefully by now most of you have heard it -- if not, you can check it out on the website or here or here or here.  But the recharge is doing me well, and I'm back up to my old tricks again...

For example:

I found time in the past few days to write the first post on the SBL Blog: musings on songwriting and inspiration.  I'm hoping to use the blog to talk not only about my personal pursuits, but about other interesting music and musicians, and I'm very excited about developing it further (our first musician-in-conversation, one Mr. Elio Pace, chatted with me for about two hours via Skype the other night, so you can expect a piece on him in the near future).  In the meantime, check out the new post!

Other things

I'll be spending the beginning of November playing bass for a local theater production (Cornell University's Melodramatics) so in the meantime, the Ego Band has been taking it easy (sort of) and tightening up some arrangements as well as learning some new tunes.  Yes, the work is never done…

A special musical surprise

Here you go, devoted readers.  Last month, we played a gig at The Nines in Ithaca with Will Shishmanian and Peaches and Crime, and the Ego Band broke out a tune that required a bit of instrument switching (and the astonishing vocal power of Mandy Goldman).  This is a personal favorite: Led Zeppelin's Howlin' Wolf reinterpretation, The Lemon Song.  You can download a soundboard recording of the performance here.  Please enjoy.

That's all for this month.  Everyone have a happy Halloween!
