Meet Volunteer, Renee Palmer

Renee has been a volunteer with Gilgal for three years.  She met many residents during the Hank Stewart Foundation Pampering at Gilgal event.  Moved by their life stories, Renee thought that she could make a difference and began to volunteer with Job Readiness training.  She worked with board member Charles McCord doing mock interviews and evaluating resumes.  Shortly afterward, Renee decided to work with the ladies of Gilgal on a phone banking project (instead of the general public)  "Ms. Val thanks me for giving the residents of Gilgal a chance.  I can always count on the ladies of Gilgal to do a phenomenal job.  They are motivated and they have an excellent work ethic! My clients are pleased.  Gilgal women get the job done!"

Laverona F.

I love the volunteers that come to Gilgal.  They are so warm and encouraging.   In my addiction, no one wanted to be around me, so, I am sometimes overwhelmed with the kindness of complete strangers.  Especially Ms. Renee.  The opportunity to work was very exciting.

Volunteers have also helped me understand more about my relationship with God.  I've learned that confession is agreeing with God about my sin; that He has already forgiven me and now I continuously thank Him for that forgiveness.  I am also learning who I am in Him.  Its a whole new way of looking at life.  I have used drugs / alcohol for the past 20 years, not realizing that I was a child of the King.  I choose to act like who I am today.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for being a part of new memories created at Gilgal. The holidays can be a very difficult time for women in recovery.  Your presence and thoughtfulness mean so much.  God Bless You!
