Softball Smarts Tips #141:
The Power of Trust & Game Day Success

The Power of Trust

For any softball player "trust" is the foundation, the underpinning of every game day success or failure she will experience.

Simply stated having trust is where the rubber hits the road. Without trust there is hesitancy, doubt, a lack of confidence and poor execution...all leading to inevitable failure.

So what causes trust to increase and what causes trust to diminish?

TRUST +
  1. A willingness to make mistakes or fail.
  2. Coach and parent support (focusing on process not results).
  3. Remembering past successes.
  4. Framing every mistake as a learning opportunity.
  5. Working through the fear of leaving old comfort zones.
  6. Adequate physical and mental preparation.
TRUST -
  1. Focusing sole on results.
  2. Fear of disappointing parent or coach.
  3. Over thinking or over-analyzing on the field.
  4. Fear of failure, embarrassment.
  5. Forgetting previous successes.
  6. Inadequate physical and mental preparation.

Remember, trust and confidence go hand in hand. The more your athlete cultivates the trust she needs to be her best on the diamond the faster her self-confidence levels will rise in all parts of her game and the closer she will come to performing to her fullest potential on game day!
