LGBT Community Capacity Building
Stirling Edition
October 2012
Welcome to the first of a series of the LGBT Community Capacity Building updates.*
This is an opportunity to update you with information and current work happening in a particular Local Authority but will also include information that is relevant across Scotland.
Each issue will focus on a different area, helping us to build a national picture, sharing good practice, and highlighting achievement.
*LGBT Youth Scotland takes a national approach to youth work and capacity building where we deliver work with LGBT people so that they become more visible in their local communities and get the right support to participate in local decision-making structures. We also work with services to support them to better recognise the needs and experiences of LGBT young people, supporting progress towards requirements under the Equality Act.
Our national programme also builds the capacity of youth workers across the country, supporting them to come together, share practice and develop their skills in working with LGBT young people; and we support the development of services for LGBT young people on a national level, working towards outcomes in Curriculum for Excellence.

National Gathering
The National Gathering is an annual 3 day event hosted by LGBT Youth Scotland which provides the opportunity for over 100 LGBT young people from across Scotland, to come together to meet new people, take part in activities and workshops and get involved with the LGBT National Youth Council. In August 2012 we were delighted to host the event at Stirling University.
This event saw a weekend of drama workshops, National Youth Council (NYC) issue workshops, a red carpet disco and the hotly anticipated LGBT Youth Scotland Awards which recognised young people and projects from the last year.
The Award Ceremony was hosted by Rhona Cameron who presented thirty awards, Stuart Stockman from Stirling won an award for his involvement with many projects, including attendance at the local council hustings and presenting a question regarding the provision of LGBT support in schools. Stuart is a real ambassador for LGBT young people across Stirling.
