Dear <<First Name>>:
Welcome to another edition of the life [simplified] letter.

The multi-tasking challenge
Last week's letter on
multi-tasking struck a chord with readers. I received a number of excellent comments. Here is a sample:
"After reading your article I am really going to try to practise "being present in the moment" and not overloading my brain with info or tasks or to do's etc. You are so right and
thank you for giving me a challenge!! Will let you know how it goes."
I agree it is a challenge but worth the effort. Thanks for sharing.
The Discomfort Zone
Learning something new
Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow. ~ Anthony J. D'Angelo
I consider myself a life long learner. I enjoy a challenge. When I learn something new, I feel a sense of accomplishment.
In the January, I’ll be tackling a new learning curve. I’ve agreed to a short term contract at the university. I'll be coordinating a course for 130 students and assisting another coordinator with her course. I’m confident that I can do the job, but I'm going to be in a new environment. I'll have to learn the cultural norms. I'll have to learn my way around a new faculty building. I'll need to meet new people and figure out where to find the resources I need. In order to do my job, I'm sure I'll need to learn some new skills. That's a little challenging for me and also a bit uncomfortable.
Perhaps the discomfort I feel comes from a fear of failing or looking foolish. When I’m challenged to learn something new, I feel afraid of the unknown. Familiarity breeds comfort but I know it can also breed boredom. I've come to understand that when I feel a little uncomfortable about learning something new, that the discomfort is a positive sign.
It’s healthy for me to be pushed out of my comfort zone and I'm pretty sure this new challenge will give me a shove. Wish me luck.
Your life [simplified]
Have you been challenged to move out your comfort zone lately? If so, in what way?
Please share.
Have a great week!
Cheers,
Catherine
