NEWS - All Systems Are Go

It's been a busy few weeks for the CoLab team. We are getting ready for the move into the new WG building and  the launch of our new website in January, which will include listings and registration for Marker creative workshops, information on the Creative Technologies academic programme, and easy-to-find information about CoLab-supported events, projects, publications and more.

CoLab's Frances Joseph and Rebekah Foote, have been working with John Piper from AUT's Digital Design department and staff from across the faculty in planning an AUT-hosted Animation Symposium scheduled for March 2013. We are delighted to be working with Malcolm Turner, Director of the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF) in developing a five-day event for education and industry that pushes the boundaries of animation and creativity. It's animation, but not as you know it. The five days will include presentations, screenings, workshops, an exhibition, international guests, a high school jury and other side events; all hosted in AUT's WG learning precinct.

Hot on the heels of the Animation Symposium is Doc NZ’s  Screen Edge Forum, planned for mid-April 2013, which CoLab is proud to support for the fourth year running. The Screen Edge Forum brings together local and international panelists from film, TV, mobile technologies, production and more to discuss all matters related to working in the screen industry.  The Forum is organised as part of the annual Documentary Edge Festival, and we are crossing our fingers to be able to screen some of the films at AUT's new high definition audio-visual display lecture theatres .

More details are to be released soon.

FUNDING SUCCESS - Free Workshops to Run Alongside Wandering Creatures

We are delighted to announce that the Auckland Council, through its Creative Communities Scheme  has given financial support for three public workshops to accompany the interactive exhibition, Wandering Creatures by artist and CoLab member, Kim Newall.

Kim creates imaginative, hybrid, virtual creatures that can have legs like pigs, beaks like birds or trunks like elephants. These creatures are virtual and responsive, developing their identities through audience engagement.  The audience is now  invited to become more engaged through this process by participating in one of three free public workshops.

The workshops will be held at multiple sites across the Auckland Zoo in early 2013, and will be designed to complement and extend the engagement of diverse audiences in a playful and active way, enabling a new audience to discover and enjoy digital art.

Supported by THE EDGE/Regional Facilities Auckland and CoLab/AUT University, this exhibition will run during the Auckland Fringe  from February 15 - March 16, 2013.
