Columbia Technology Ventures News and Events
Dear Colleagues,

As many of you may know, CTV’s Executives in Residence (XIR) Program aims to connect Columbia technologies and researchers with seasoned industry executives, venture capitalists, and serial entrepreneurs. By doing so, we hope to leverage the deep domain expertise of these individuals to help accelerate the path of promising Columbia technologies towards market success.

I am excited to welcome Sid Dalal and Jerry Korten, CTV’s new XIRs.  Sid Dalal previously served as the CTO at RAND Corporation, responsible for creating and coordinating strategies and architecture for new technology research and platforms; for developing potential paths to commercialization; for launching a major initiative in “big data” research systems; and for the technical architecture behind a revolutionary early warning system developed by RAND for identifying toxic chemicals among tens of thousands of other compounds which resulted in a first ever spin-off from RAND.  Before joining RAND in 2007, Dalal was Vice President of Research at Xerox, in charge of Xerox's worldwide imaging and software services research. Dalal has also worked at Bell Laboratories and at Bellcore/SAIC/Telcordia Technologies, where he served as Chief Scientist and Executive Director.

Jerry Korten is a medical device company executive with expertise in product development, business development and regulatory approval planning. He was the CEO of Versamed, which was sold to GE Healthcare where he served as GM for business development. Jerry is currently a Director for iSonea Medical and has been a Director for three medical device companies. His technical expertise is in algorithm development using digital signal processing and instrumentation design with a focus on cardio-pulmonary measurements and embedded engineering design.

As with all of our XIRs, Sid and Jerry will be available to Columbia researchers for advice and consultation only during their 3-month term at Columbia. If you have a project that you think may benefit from their experience and expertise, please reach out to your CTV licensing officer or to techventures@columbia.edu to arrange a one-on-one meeting.

We will be adding more XIRs with different backgrounds to the team in the months ahead. For more information, please visit our website at http://techventures.columbia.edu/techdev/executives-in-residence

Sincerely,

Orin Herskowitz
