Alessandro Scarlatti: Gli equivoci nel sembiante
Gli equivoci nel sembiante, Scarlattijeva prva opera, je komedija o zamenjanih identitetah in ljubezenskih zapletih v pastoralnem okolju. Bila je eno najbolj priljubljenih in najpogosteje predvajanih del v skladateljevi dolgoletni karieri. Scarlatti jo je napisal, ko je imel osemnajst let, osnova za njegovo delo pa je bil Contijev libreto. Opera je bila manjša produkcija (le štirje pevci) in je bila prvič uprizorjena v Rimu med karnevalom leta 1679. Papež Inocenc XI. si je nadvse želel, da bi Rim zopet napolnil z duhovnostjo, zato mu niso bile všeč posvetne igre ali opere. Vendar pa je bila zabava med karnevalom dovoljena. V času prvih predstav se je švedska kraljica ravno mudila v Rimu in videla opero mladega skladatelja. Predstava ji je bila tako všeč, da si jo je ogledala vsaj še dvakrat. Opero so igrali tudi v hiši grofa Capizucchija med postom pred veliko nočjo, kar pa je bilo v nasprotju s papeževimi pravili. Uprizorili so jo iz dveh razlogov: grofova žena je morala biti zaradi nosečnosti v postelji, opero pa si je želel ogledati tudi kardinal Chigi. Vsekakor predstava v postnem času kaže, kako priljubljena je postala opera v dokaj kratkem času. Leta 1681 so delo odigrali v dveh opernih središčih, na Dunaju in v Neaplju. Predstavi sta bili v čast članu avstrijske kraljeve družine in ogledalo si ju je izbrano občinstvo. Leta 1690 so predstavo postavili na odrske deske v Benetkah kot del slavja ob poroki med beneško plemkinjo in rimskim princem. Ogledalo si jo je precejšnje število plemenitašev in diplomatov. To je bilo le nekaj uprizoritev opere. Večinoma so to bile manjše uprizoritve, s katerimi so poskrbeli za zabavo izbrane množice plemenitašev. V tem oziru je Gli equivoci nel sembiante podobna številnim manjšim operam svojega časa, ki niso bile namenjene zabavanju večjih množic v velikih koncertnih dvoranah, temveč zabavi plemičev na zasebnih predstavah.
. Za ta smo program izbirali še posebej skrbno, zato sem bil vesel povabila v lanskem septembru, da pristopimo med koproducente opere Alessandra Scarlattija Gli equivoci nel sembiante. Dirigent in flavtist Carlo Ipata je s svojim ansamblom AuserMusici iz Pise že nekajkrat gostoval na našem festivalu in vedno navdušil tudi najzahtevnejše ljubitelje umetnosti, tak bo tudi njegov letošnji nastop.

Alessandro Scarlatti: Gli equivoci nel sembiante
Gli equivoci nel sembiante, Scarlatti's first opera, is a comedy of mistaken identities and amorous intrigues in the pastoral mode. It was one of the most popular and widely performed works of the composer's long career. Gli equivoci nel sembiante was written by Scarlatti at the age of 18 on a libretto by Contini. The opera was a small-scale production (only four singers), which premiered in Rome during Carnival in 1679. Pope Innocent XI was really interested in restoring holiness to Rome; therefore, he did not like secular plays or operas. Yet entertainment was allowed during Carnival. During the initial performance period, the Queen of Sweden travelled to Rome and saw the young composer's opera. She liked the opera so much that she watched it at least two more times. The opera was also performed during Lent at the house of Count Capizucchi. This performance went against the pope's rules. Two reasons are given for the performance. The first is that the Count's wife was bedridden because of pregnancy. The second reason is that Cardinal Chigi wanted to see the opera. Either way, this Lenten performance shows the popularity that this opera received in a relatively short time span. In 1681, the opera was performed in two of the centres of opera, Vienna and Naples. These performances were given to celebrate a member of Austrian royalty and were attended by an elite audience. In 1690, the opera was performed in Venice for the first time to celebrate the wedding of a Venetian noblewoman to a Roman prince. The performance was seen be a fairly large crowd of nobles and diplomats. These are just a few of the numerous performances of the opera. Most of these performances were small in scale, performed to entertain an elite crowd of nobles. In this way, Gli equivoci nel sembiante is typical of many small scale operas of its day- they existed not as entertainment for the masses in large concert halls, but for nobles in private performances.
