Stand alone refraction position paper

In October, we published a position paper on stand alone refraction. We believe that refraction should not be offered as a ‘stand-alone’ service, even in areas where there are high levels of sight loss through refractive error.

Eye health is too important to take any unnecessary risks. We believe that safeguards to prevent stand alone refraction would serve patients well and reduce the economic cost of avoidable blindness to individual patients, as well as to society.

President-Elect nominations

Members are invited to nominate a colleague to stand for the role of President-Elect. The nominee will take over from current President-Elect, Susan Cooper, when she begins her term as WCO President in April 2013.

Who can nominate?

Associate members of WCO are eligible to nominate someone for the post of President-Elect.

If you are not sure if you are eligible, please check our list of associate members.

Who is not eligible to nominate?

We will not be able to accept nominations from members in the same region as the current President-Elect. As the current President-Elect is a member of a North American organisation (the Canadian Association of Optometrists), we are unable to accept nominations for people from this region.

However, members from North America are invited to nominate someone from one of our other world regions:

  • Africa
  • Asia Pacific
  • Eastern Mediterranean
  • Europe
  • Latin America

How to nominate

WCO member organisations should complete the application form on our website. It should be signed by two member organisations in your region, or two officers from your regional organisation.

Deadline for nominations: 21 January 2013.

Election

All nominations received by the deadline will be circulated to WCO members in advance of the election, which will take place at the General Delegates’ Meeting in Malaga, Spain, on 21 April 2013.
