*Now is the perfect time to use up your remaining insurance and flex plan benefits for 2012! If you have met your deductible for the year, or if you have chiropractic visits left to use up, or if you have remaining money left on a flex plan account that will disappear on January 1st, then schedule an appointment today! Stress, weather changes, raking, shoveling, shopping, and being sick can all make us sore and miserable. Let us help you, and save yourself some money at the same time! You have already paid for these benefits, so don't let them go to waste.

We are still looking for additional providers at the office! If you know of someone who would be interested in renting space in a multi-practitioner natural health clinic, please have them contact us! Services that would be a great fit include naturopath, massage therapist, craniosacral therapist, reiki, reflexologist, herbalist, midwife, doula, hypnotherapist or life coach.

Our website is new and improved as well! Save time by booking your appointments online, filling out paperwork ahead of time and more! We will be adding more information over the next couple of weeks, but feel free to take a look around. www.newbeginningschiropractic.net

Thank you and hope to see you over the holidays!

Enjoy the Transitions into Fall and Winter

Dr. Brenda Trudell

Fall and winter in the midwest can be a beautiful time. It is also a time to encourage us to slow down, relax, rejeuventate, listen to our bodies and simplify our lives. While I personally get a little sad seeing the hours of daylight shortened dramatically and the temps dropping suddenly, I also delight in wearing beautiful scarves, lighting yummy fall-scented candles, and being home earlier in the evenings to unwind from the day.

Fall is a time when people are more likely to catch a cold or the flu. There are many theories about why this happens. Vitamin D levels drop off dramatically with the shorter hours of sunlight. People tend to be more cooped up, sneezing and coughing on one another. Our selection of fresh fruits and veggies, high in antioxidants, decreases as the growing season comes to an end.

But I also feel that sometimes getting sick is just what the body needs. Of course nobody likes to feel sick, and serious illnesses can be quite scary, but getting over infections is what boosts our immune system, and teaches it how to work properly. We can’t tune up our immune system if it never gets a chance to work. Many people also notice how great they feel after coming out on the other side of an illness. Many children go through a growth spurt after fighting a cold. For others, it forces them to relax for a day or two, to do nothing but rest and give the body what it needs.

Essential Oil of the Month: Eucalyptus

The best treatment for a cold or flu is prevention. Because many essential oils have strong anti-microbial properties, they can be diffused to prevent the spread of airborne bacteria and viruses. If you now have a cold or flu, use it for inhalation: add 3-5 drops of eucalyptus oil to a pan of hot water and drape a towel over your head and breathe in the steam, or put 2-3 drops on a handkerchief.  Or drip 5 drops on the floor of the shower before you turn it on. The strong eucalyptus and moist heat will open up clogged airways. Or dilute it 50-50, and massage 1-3 drops on each of the following areas: forehead, nose, cheeks, bottom of feet, lower throat, chest and upper back, 1-3 times daily. A carrier oil such as almond or jojoba oil should be used with eucalyptus.
