Meet the New Committee!
 We had a great turn out for this year's AGM. Thank you to everyone who came along and shared your views on the future of the branch. Together, we filled 3 flip-charts with great ideas and the new committee are bursting with excitement - we can't wait to get started! So whether you've got an idea for a lifesaving project, or simply want to know how we can help your group, now is the perfect time to get in touch! Spice Up Your Training! 15 Nov 2012
 Are you a lifesaving instructor? Do you find it hard to teach first aid and water-safety theory in an interesting and engaging way? Then this event is for you!
In response to popular demand, RLSS A&NW will be running a workshop to explore different ways to invigorate your training. You'll leave the workshop inspired with loads of new ideas to engage your group and inject some fun back into your theory sessions! WANTED: Judges, Casualties and Competitors
 There's still a few days left to enter the Bristol University Lifesaving Competition on 17 Nov 2012. Keynsham LSC and Bradford-on-Avon LSC have both entered teams, so what are you waiting for?
Mixed teams of four will compete in a land-based incident, a pool-based incident, a rope-throw relay, a swim & tow relay, and a medley relay. RLSS volunteers will be on hand to talk you through the events if you're new to competitions. You don't even need four people to compete - we can put you in touch with other lifesavers to form a team. E-mail avon@rlsswest.org.uk or see the BULSCA website for more details.
The university are still looking for qualified judges and volunteers to be casualties in the incidents so get in touch if you can help!
University Lifesaving News
 Teams from Bristol and Bath University headed down to Southampton for the first competition of the university calendar last weekend. Despite being forced to withdraw from the final event when the competition over-ran and one of their team had to leave, Bath still managed to finish in 27th place. They will certainly be disappointed with this result, but it's still early in the season and they'll be looking to turn things around at the Bristol competition.
The Bristol Uni A-team are off to a flying start in the university league, finishing in an exceptional 4th place at the Southampton competition. Their B-team also had a fantastic day, finishing in 16th place out of 33 teams. Only time will tell if Bristol can retain this form when they compete on home turf next weekend... |

Lifesaving Instructors Course
We're considering running a Lifesaving Instructors Course in January 2013. This qualification will allow you to teach the new Survive and Save awards. Dates and venue yet to be confirmed, but please contact avon@rlsswest.org.uk to register your interest.
RLSS UK National Speed Champs 2013
The RLSS UK National Speed Championships 2013 will be held 9th and 10th March, at Ponds Forge Sheffield. The closing date is 11 Jan 2013. For More Information please Click Here
National Student Lifesaving Champs 2013
The national student championships will be taking place on the 16th/17th March 2013 at University of Bath. This competition is also open to a limited number of entries from community lifesaving clubs - the closing date is 28 Jan 2013. Digital Magazine
RLSS UK are considering publishing a digital copy of the quarterly "Lifesavers" magazine online. Please take a look at the first edition and submit your feedback anonymously online.
