Sex+Money: A National Search for Human Worth is a feature-length documentary about domestic minor trafficking and the modern-day abolitionist movement fighting to stop it. The film follows a group of photojournalists as they travel in an RV on a journey across the United States, seeking to understand how the exploitation of children has become the nation’s fastest growing form of organized crime and what can be done to stop it. Since September 2009, the crew has traveled to over 30 states and conducted more than 75 interviews with federal agents, victims, politicians, activists, psychologists, adult movie stars, among others.
The History - In 2007, a group of student photojournalists embarked on a journey through 20+ nations on every inhabitable continent, motivated by their love for photography and their passion for justice. At the outset, their experiences seemed diverse, even random. However, a common thread of human suffering emerged as their travels exposed them to a dark, seldom discussed side of humanity – children being bought and sold to satisfy the pleasures of other humans.
Upon returning to the United States the students produced a book called Sex+Money: A Global Search for Human Worth. This collection of photographs and stories explores the realities of human trafficking and offers readers a global perspective on the consequences of abusing two of the most powerful forces in the world - Sex and Money.
While researching to write their book, the journalists were shocked to discover that the same injustice was happening on their own soil. Across America between 100,000 and 300,000 minors are being exploited ... and most Americans are oblivious to this staggering truth. As a result, what started as a Global Search for Human Worth became a National Search for Human Worth, and resulted in the production of the movie.
This movie viewing is organized by the Zonta Club of Yakima Valley in partnership with Washington Engage.

On November 5th, representatives from service agencies, law enforcement, and elected officials attended a presentation by Chris Johnson on human trafficking and community engagement. Chris reviewed state and federal legislation on human trafficking and talked at length about the challenges for law enforcement and prosecution to see these cases through to successful sentencing. He talked about the potential source of resources from property forfeiture and fines to support law enforcement and human services from bill HB 2692 and 1983 and SB 6253.
Community engagement and raising awareness were discussed and the fact that community mobilization can assist law enforcement in Yakima Valley. Community mobilization is essential also for raising support for victim services. Chris emphasized that it's important for each community to decide just how they want to do this in their community.
The meeting was attended by Rep Charles Ross, Rep Jim Honeyford, Commissioner Kevin Bouchey, Chief Dominic Rizzi, YSO Chief Detective Stewart Graham, and representatives from Washington State Patrol, Yakima County Human Services, YPD Special Assault Unit officers, Yakima County Crime Stoppers, Toppenish Police Department, Yakima County Juvenile Courts, Comprehensive Mental Health, NW Immigrant Rights Project, Rod's House, Sunnyside's Promise, F.I.R.M.E. from the Tri-Cities, and Gleed Block Watch.
