I’ll do that once I’m skinny…
I can’t do that until I get a degree…
Once the kids are grown I’ll…
What is keeping you from doing what you want NOW?
In 2011 my husband and I really started exploring the idea of starting a family. We had talked about it before but wanted to wait until we felt more ready. We talked about things we wanted to do first – travel, get established in our careers, move to a bigger home, spend more than a month in Paris, etc. We were checking things off that list and ready to start moving forward with our plan when my dad got sick. I remember wondering if we should wait. What did it mean? What if I was too sad? What if he passed away while I was pregnant? Should we wait? What if he passed away after we had the baby? Would my grief affect my parenting? Should we wait for a better time? What if we waited too long and couldn’t get pregnant? What if….? What if?????
What was getting in the way of living our lives?
It would be easy to guess “my dad’s health.” But if I’m really thinking about it, it was fear. Fear that something bad would happen. Fear that we would choose the wrong time. Fear that there is actually a “best time.”
Are you blaming another person or another situation for the lack of movement in your life? Take a moment and ask yourself what you are waiting for? What is really getting in the way?
Sometimes there isn’t an “ideal” situation….or an “ideal” time to take action. Sometimes we just move forward and see how our life unfolds…
Wishing you and yours a blessed and love-filled holiday season.
