Mentoring Monthly for everyone supporting, signed up for, and interested in Get Mentoring.
Mentoring Monthly
Welcome to Mentoring Monthly. It’s been a soggy few weeks, but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of the Get Mentoring scheme. With the end of the initiative in sight we have been scouring the country for every opportunity to spread the word about volunteer enterprise mentoring.

In this issue we will update you on the success of the High Five campaign, a collaboration between Get Mentoring and Lloyds Banking Group, raising £5 for every person who completes the initiative’s online training. We will report back on the PRIME conference held in London where mentoring was top of the agenda for business experts discussing the future for senior entrepreneurs. There’s been lots of great activity surrounding Global Entrepreneurship Week which took on a mentoring theme this year through the ‘Pass It On’ campaign. As always we’ve been speaking to some of our brand new mentors who promise to bring a deluge of knowledge and experience to the scheme. And there’s plenty more in this e-newsletter to keep you informed and entertained as you shelter from the elements.

If you are interested in getting involved with enterprise mentoring – whether to find new opportunities, meet people, or just give something back to society – head to www.getmentoring.org and learn more.

Kate Saunders’ business, Blackberry Cottage, earned her a nomination for Best Product at the Mumpreneur Awards 2012. GEW High Impact
We were delighted this week to receive notification that the events and activities we ran alongside Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 have been recognised as High Impact. We thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in GEW, especially as the theme this year was 'Pass it On' - perfect for Get Mentoring. It was fantastic to see so many events with a mentoring theme involved in the campaign. Read our guest blog on the GEW site here - 'Pass it on and get mentoring!'.

The Business Show
November has been jam packed for the Get Mentoring team, with a schedule or events running alongside Global Entrepreneurship Week and beyond. Hello to the new mentors and businesses looking for mentors that we met this month at The Business Show at Olympia (pictured), Independent Retail Show at the NEC, London Business Village at The British Library, and the Women in Business Awards in Leeds. It's been busy and inspiring, with very positive messages about the benefits of mentoring throughout.
All mentors who have completed the Introduction to Enterprise Mentoring training receive free membership to the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE). Among the many benefits is the new ‘mentee directory’, which enables mentors to actively seek out business owners in need of help and support. Don’t wait for a mentee to find you, visit the IOEE website now, select your region and Get Mentoring.

Mentors earn Young Enterprise a big High Five
Thanks to the efforts of thousands of volunteer mentors and Lloyds Banking Group, nearly £10,000 has been raised for Young Enterprise in November. Find out why Lloyds Banking Group supports mentoring below. They have now agreed to extend the offer into December until they've reached their £10,000 goal. We're very close, so please complete the online training soon to help their full donation reach Young Enterprise. Read more.

Mentoring in a Minute – Our monthly taster of the principles taught through the Get Mentoring scheme.
This week: Using the Head as well as the Heart.
An entrepreneur must invest time and energy into a new business – and with this comes an emotional attachment. While this ensures that a business owner stays motivated, it can cause them to become closed off to suggestions. A mentor’s role is to help an entrepreneur take a more detached view and see how things might be done differently. Encouraging a business owner to explore all the options will help them to come to the best decision for their enterprise – using their head as well as their heart to make balanced judgements.
Mentoring Monthly caught up with Ashley Whittley, development manager of UnLtd in Northern Ireland, to ask her how working with Get Mentoring has helped them provide support for social entrepreneurs. Find out more here.
