This is a Newsletter from Industrilas to all our present customers - or for those who signed up for latching news or the newsletter on our website. In this issue we talk about custom glued sealing profiles, recent new products, the Dakar rally and Christmas holidays.

Friction hinge runs smoothly

Many of our customers need a simple way to hatch open service panels and doors mounted horizontally – or if they are located in a windy environment.

Our Development Department has consequently designed an easy to use friction hinge with adjustable resistance, from 0 to 90 kg of friction. Simply adjusted with a screwdriver, the friction assures that the hinge stays open, closed or in the desired position in between.

Your can use these friction hinges on small doors in windy situations, as for instance on diesel generators, or where a hatch is mounted with the hinge on the upper edge, and the friction function prevents the hatch from closing and possibly striking the service technician. The friction hinges are also used for certain collapsible equipment, such as large displays, signs and expo & theater sets. Read more on our web catalogue page 3-475.

D-ring Latch

We offer a new product for those of you in the fire prevention industry. This time it is a so-called D-ring lock with a recessed D-shaped handle that you fold out and turn to open the door. There are a few special features on this simple product – both the lock and the shaft are recessed, thereby minimizing the risk of getting caught in protruding parts; and the handle may easily be equipped with plastic or metal wire tamper-evident seals, which is often a requirement for fireproof cabinets. Additionally the lock is designed with distinct “clicks” in its end positions and a special mounting nut only needs to be turned about 30 degrees, making for a very quick installation.

Stainless Compression Latch

A new product to keep in mind is this compression latch, now available in stainless steel for those difficult applications. The latch has the compression necessary for damp or rainy conditions, when you want the sealing profiles to keep a dry and safe interior environment in the enclosure. We are really happy about the product and its appearance, and as usual, we make it here in our factory. Read more about the products in our web catalogue - for the regular zinc version, see page 2-136, or find out more about the new stainless version on page 6-136.

The Dakar Rally. Guess whose Handles?

This may not come as a surprise, but we are really proud to have our products in one of the toughest challenges - for both man and machine - The Dakar Rally. This time, the rally runs 8,000 km through Peru, Argentina and Chile, taking a toll on the drivers, but also on the mechanical equipment used. When Swedish motorcyclist Thomas Berglund wanted the best handles for tough climates, he asked the toughest people in the country: the Swedish Army. What did they recommend? Our Vector latches, of course. These Vector handles with compression function are able to keep sand, rain, snow and dust out of important machinery, and have been used on military vehicles all over the world. They will now be in the Dakar rally, from desert climates to high up in the Andes, at full throttle January 5 - 20, 2013. We'll let you know more as the race unfolds.

Glued seals

We can now offer you glued rubber sealing profiles and insulation profiles as a low-cost alternative to the vulcanized seals we already deliver. If you need to produce a large quantity of sealed enclosures then the assembly is significantly simplified if you receive the seals ready-to-use in the shape of rings with the correct diameter. This way the seal is quickly pressed or hammered into place on the edge of the equipment case, achieving the best possible seal in the least amount of time.

Vulcanized seals tend to produce a stronger bond, but glued seals are completely durable – and at an attractive price. A seal spliced with a glue bond produces O-shaped seals with excellent results that will increase the assembly speed and productivity of your customers.

Another new product is our clever plastic cap for cams, designed to provide for soft closings, prevent door rattle, and, perhaps primarily, prevent scratches and damage if the doorframe is coated. This item is another smart little aid with a simple and cost-effective solution to an occasional problem. You will be impressed by what this little gadget will accomplish if you have problems with peeling paint under the cam.
