Southern Wesleyan University has been offering flexible programs to working adults for 25 years, but new fully-online programs are about to take flexibility to the next level. Courses are taught in a flexible virtual classroom experience, designed to be both engaging and challenging. New tech tool will enhance IT Office and Library support to students, employees

The Office of Information Technology has added a new tool to its support technology to help better assist students, faculty and staff. Bomgar is a tool that will offer chat and remote screen sharing as part of the IT Office’s customer support to the campus in Central as well as SWU’s education centers across the state. Read more>>

Fine arts events

Feb. 1, 7:30 p.m. | “Back by Request”- SWU Music Alumni Concert

7:30 p.m. Adults, $5; Children under 12, students with ID, SWU students- FREE.

Music graduates return to the campus in Central and join Dr. Melanie Rowell, professor of music, for an evening of beautiful music in a benefit concert for the Fine Arts Scholarship Fund. Performing will be Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organ; Jac Mandel, guitar; Amber James, soprano; and Dr. Melanie Rowell, soprano. These performers combine their talent to bring a variety of musical selections sure to delight the listener. The concert will be held in the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. Returning for their 2013 performance, actors from the Charlotte Children’s Theatre will present a unique approach to the familiar story of The Three Little Pigs – the title has been tweaked, but the facts remain the same. Influenza (flu) is a respiratory infection of the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.  Stomach flu and influenza are not the same thing. 
 
Symptoms include the following:
  • Fever (usually above 100)
  • Cough and or sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea (mostly in children)
 
Flu Prevention:
  • Your best defense against the flu is the vaccine (contact Nurse Herron for information regarding a vaccine). 
  • The next best defense is to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer frequently, especially after touching common surfaces such as door handles.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing with either a disposable tissue or a sleeve, and avoid touching your face.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water to keep the immune system working at its best.
