Quimby's Zlumber Party

Hey zinesters! Come to our Zine Slumber Party (Zlumber Party, geddit? Gosh we’re clever.) This is the second year in a row we're inviting you to come in and spend the night with us working on your zine, because we had so much fun doing it last year. The store closes at 10pm on Sat the 19th and then you're invited to spend the night here. So bring yer jammies and a sleeping bag, then leave in the morning with the zine you worked on. Laydeez Do Comics Chicago Premier

Laydeez Do Comics, London’s monthly comics salon founded by Nicola Streeten (Billy, Me, and You) and Sarah Lightman (The Book of Sarah, Graphic Details) is adding to branches in Leeds and San Francisco by starting a branch in Chicago! Come hear comics creators speak about their work, their process, their plans, and whatever else they want to share with us. Our inaugural speakers will be Kris Dresen (Max & Lilly, Manya, She Said), Corinne Mucha (Freshman, My Alaskan Summer, Chicago Magazine), Rinko Endo (Aggression Management Manga, The Cage). Join us for this event the last Thursday of every month. More info here.

Chicago Zine Fest Bingo Night Fundraiser
Fri, Jan 18th, 7-9pm at 826CHI (1331 N. Milwaukee)

Win prizes from Handlebar, Quimby's, Intelligentsia, Threadless, Second City, and more! Host Jim Joyce (Or Let It Sink) will be calling the numbers. A $5 donation gets you one bingo card per round, with an option to purchase additional cards. Note: This event is NOT at Quimby's. It's at 826CHI. Chicago Zine Fest is Friday, March 8th and 9th at various places around town. More info here.

CAKE Applications Extended Through Jan 7th!
If you missed the January 1st deadline to apply for the 2013 Chicago Alternative Comics Expo, don’t fret! Whether you’ve been publishing comics for decades or are finishing up your first mini, you should apply. CAKE 2013 is June 15th-16th at the Center on Halsted at 3656 N Halsted. Special guests include Jason Shiga, Michael DeForge, Oily Comics and more! P.S. CAKE has received nearly 300 applications from 27 states, two Canadian provinces, and the UK (pink areas highlighted in the map above). More info here.
