TSACS News
The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) elected Montgomery native Jennifer Taylor National Vice President. Jennifer will assume her one-year position representing architecture students of the accredited schools of architecture. During her 1 year tenure as a board member the young intern architect will relocate to and reside in the nation’s capital. She will serve on multiple national committees, such as the National Architectural Accrediting Board, (NAAB) School accrediting teams among other national professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The Board works with the AIA national board in organizing their Annual AIA Grassroots meeting with members the US Congress.
Jennifer is a fifth year senior in the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science (TSACS) with a minor in business administration. As the president of the TSACS AIAS chapter, she initiated several first time events. Realizing a certain disconnect between surrounding architects and her fellow students, she sought to invite architects to participate in studio crawls as well as portfolio and resume critiques. This "Career Focus" event displayed the work and potential of Tuskegee Students as well as gave students an opportunity to network with surrounding professionals. Along with this event, she initiated the 2011 Sponsorship Campaign in which she received chapter funding from Sherlock, Smith & Adams (Montgomery, AL); Williams-Blackstock Architects (Birmingham, AL); Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, Inc. (Montgomery, AL); and Thomas Otis Construction (Milledgeville, GA) to allow chapter leaders and members to attend the AIAS Grassroots and Forum Conference. Other first time events Jennifer has lead last year include the first Annual Casino Night fundraising event, AIAS Annual Chapter Newsletter Founder and Editor, AIAS Design Competition participation, and the Career Paths Panel Discussions.
