Building Momentum

The first City Council Candidate Forum was held on January 28, hosted by the Highland Park - Highwood Rotary Club.  I was glad to have the opportunity to present to such a distinguished group of people who care about our community, as I do.

Speaking with residents, I have been pleased to hear that so many of us believe that Highland Park is a great community and a wonderful place to live.  I am running for City Council because I believe that we, as a great community, can and will be better with the best leadership we can elect.

I want to work for you to make Highland Park a more attractive place for business and culture; to make sure we are more sustainable and environmentally responsible, so that our natural resources are preserved for our children and grandchildren; and to implement a smarter, more proactive budgeting process to make sure that we are spending our money efficiently and effectively.  My extensive experience in non profit management positions me well to take Highland Park to this next level.

For twenty years, I ran organizations that had tight budgets but big aspirations. I figured out how to use scarce resources to meet a variety of needs, and we were successful at finding creative and strategic ways to achieve our mission. These skills and my experience translate well to the job of City Council.

We can and should be the City that other municipalities around the state and country look to as an example of smart government and a vibrant, sustainable community. To reach these goals, we need to elect people with strong leadership and management experience who have the skills, creativity, and independence to push us to that next level. I am confident that I have the ability to move our community forward. I hope that I can count on your support on April 9.

Meeting Your Neighbors

Even though the temperatures are cold, the race for City Council is heating up.  I've stayed warm by walking door to door and meeting voters.  Would you join me for an hour or two any upcoming weekend to help spread the word about our campaign to your friends and neighbors?  Contact Kim by clicking here.

If you prefer to get involved in other ways, we would love your help.  This is an inclusive community campaign, and we hope that you will participate.  Visit the campaign website or contact me to learn more and get involved.

I was honored to be featured in the alumni magazine of the University of Michigan's School of Public Policy. To read the article, click here

Bipartisan Solutions to Climate Change

As you may know, I serve on the National Advisory Board of the Union of Concerned Scientists. Recently, UCS released a new video featuring two scientists--one who has usually voted for Republicans, the other for Democrats--who have come together to urge leaders of both parties to find bipartisan solutions to climate change. Watch it here, then consider sharing it with at least one person with a different political view than your own.
