Greg Horne Music News
January 3, 2013

Happy new year, everybody! I'm so glad to have all of you as friends and honored to have you as fans and supporters. The end of 2012 was full of music. I got to play lots of shows with many friends, including the Bearded, the Lonetones, and the Circle Modern Dance Primitive Light shows. I'm working on cool stuff for the new year, including shows, lessons, releasing some old recordings, and making new books, songs, bands, and records. Here's what's up this week.

Quake Orphans on WDVX Blue Plate Special
Saturday, January 5, 2013, 12 noon (free)
Attend in person at the Knoxville Visitors Center, or listen online at http://wdvx.com
Quake Orphans is Tim Lee (guitar and vocals), Susan Bauer Lee (vocals), Greg Horne (mandolin and guitar), and Cecilia Miller (cello). We are an acoustic alter-ego to the electric Tim Lee 3. The Tim Lee 3 is releasing a new album at the end of February 2013. As a bonus for preordering, you can get an EP of Quake Orphans (recorded by Greg). Rockwood Ferry House Concert at Greg's House
Saturday, January 5, 2013, 7:30 pm (reservations required, see below)
My brother (you may know him as Tenzin Chopak or Evan Horne) is bringing a trio version of his band, Rockwood Ferry, to Knoxville for a couple of shows just after the holidays. These will be his first performances in Knoxville in many years. Having seen the band and heard the music, I'm so excited that they are coming in. I love what they're doing and I hope you'll take a chance to check them out while they are here. They will play two shows in Knoxville, as well as shows in Jonesborough, Cookeville, West Virginia, Louisville, and Oberlin. See their website for schedule and to check out their music. http://rockwoodferry.com

Rockwood Ferry is based in Ithaca, NY, and is made up of some of Ithaca's best musicians. They released a debut CD at the end of the summer, and are about to record another one soon. The trio version of the band is Tenzin with Eric Aceto on violin and Ethan Jodzeiwicz on bass. Eric is known worldwide as violin and string instrument builder, and is a great violinist in styles ranging from gypsy jazz to old-time. Ethan is an amazing bass player who works with several bands and performs as a solo upright bassist. The CD also features famed Ithaca musicians Richie Stearns, Rosie Newton, and Harry Aceto.

Paige and I will host a house concert for Rockwood Ferry at our home in North Knoxville on the evening Saturday, January 5. Here are the details:
Space is very limited, so reservations are required. WE STILL HAVE SOME SPOTS OPEN! Please email me (you can reply to this email) and let me know how many people you will be bringing. I will send you an email with our address and directions (we are near Broadway and 640).
The show will start at 7:30, you can arrive between 6:30 and 7:30. Please try to come before the show starts, as the door is right by the performance space! You may have to wait until between songs to come in.
The suggested donation is $10 per person. Please feel free to donate more, and to bring money for CDs. This is the first road trip South for Rockwood Ferry, so their shows will be small and they need every dollar to cover costs! There will not be a pot-luck, so eat before you come. We will have some snacks. Bring what you want to drink.

Greg Horne and Rockwood Ferry on WDVX Blue Plate Special
Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 12 noon (free)
Attend in person at the Knoxville Visitors Center, or listen online at http://wdvx.com

If you can't make the house concert, you can still catch Rockwood Ferry for free on the WDVX Blue Plate Special. I'll also be doing a solo set, my first solo show of the new year! Don't forget to bring money for CDs.

More news, shows and music will be coming soon! Also, don't forget that my wife Paige co-hosts a weekly live concert radio show every Monday at 7pm on WDVX. They have lots of great artists coming in, and you can attend in person or tune in on the web. Check out Tennessee Shines!

Here are a couple of shots from the Todd Steed and the Xmas Suns annual Christmas Eve Blue Plate Special. Todd is one of Knoxville's most inventive songwriters, and every year he puts together a special version of his band, the Suns of Phere, to play a packed house at WDVX on Christmas eve. This year we had Jeff Bills on snare, Bob Deck on John Cage mystery radio fuzz guitar, and I played some bass, mandolin and fiddle. Here's me and Todd reenacting our favorite moments from the MC5 stage show, then a shot of the whole band in deep holiday meditation. Thanks to Jeff Bills for the photos!
