What Historic Houses and Others Can Learn about Sustainability from the Rockettes!
Recently while reading a Washington Post article on the financial struggles of historic houses in Virginia, I thought about the Rockettes performance that I saw in New York over the holidays. I was amazed at the show which, of course, featured the incredible precision movements of the dancers and their dazzling costumes. Additionally, we had 3D glasses allowing us to join Santa on his ride through the theater, saw pyrotechnic displays, and enjoyed an act where the Rockettes were pieces in a computer game. Having not been to a show for decades, I clearly saw how the Rockettes had adapted the show to engage a younger, wired audience while at the same time continuing to kick! There were many multi-generational familes in the hall…

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) K-12 Artist Teacher Workshop in Greece
June 27 - July 7, 2013
The Center for Art Education and the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at MICA, would like to share information about an exciting study abroad workshop designed specifically for current and aspiring K-12 art teachers and art supervisors. "Artist Teacher Workshop in Greece" is a MICA Summer Travel Intensive that provides participants with an opportunity to deepen their own studio practice and examine how to use themes inspired by Greek art and culture as a catalyst for learning in the classroom. This 10-day workshop begins with three days in Athens and an immersion in Greek art and mythology at the acclaimed Acropolis Museum and other major cultural sites.  We then travel to the beautiful island of Skiathos, where participants commit to an intensive week-long workshop involving their own studio investigations and guided seminar-style discussions in a retreat-like setting at Studio Mirovili.  Situated in a contemporary villa overlooking olive groves and the Aegean Sea, Studio Mirovili offers a large open studio space as well as the use of all villa amenities as participants work in their choice of standard 2D media including basic printmaking, digital photography and mixed media.  Participants may earn undergraduate or graduate credit and may also choose to take three additional credits in art history and the corresponding Continuing Education Units.  Should you know of art teachers or supervisors who might benefit from this experience, or of higher ed students who plan to apply their knowledge of art in a classroom setting, we hope you will share this note and the attached flyer with them.
