Construction on the Bridge

Well ladies and gentlemen, have we got a proverbial sandbag of surprises for you.  This year, CVTC's benefit concert, The Bridge, is getting fancy.  We'd hate to ruin the surprise prematurely, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements in next month's edition.  What we will tell you is that you'd better make sure that you block off, in the boldest of script, Monday, April 22, and that you'd better start mentally preparing for a spectacular evening.

Congratulations Carleen!

It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you Carleen Graham, CVTC's newest New York State Department of Health Certified Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner!  Carleen will continue to treat sexual assault survivors at Beth Israel Medical Center where she has worked for a total of 19 years, currently as a nurse in the Emergency Department and also an Associate Professor at the BI School of Nursing.  We send her our sincerest congratulations and look forward to the wonderful work she will continue to do with survivors in the ED.

A Visit to the Capital City

On Wednesday, January 23, Jimmy Higa and Christopher Bromson represented CVTC as members of the collaborative grant provided by the National Office of Violence Against Women to increase counseling and advocacy services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community in New York City.  J and C joined representatives from Barrier Free Living, CONNECT, the New York County District Attorney's Office, and Harlem Independent Living, (at the DOJ Headquarters in Washington) now formally known as Deaf Justice Services, that will turn the visions of this grant into a reality.

Rise With the 999,999,999!

This Thursday, February 14, marks the 15th Anniversary of the V-Day movement!  Join 1 Billion Rising at exciting events all around the city.  Uptown at City College, CVTC's close friends at CONNECT will be celebrating the movement by uniting in solidarity against rape and other acts of violence.  They will also dance.  As V-Day creator Eve Ensler puts it, "One billion women violated is an atrocity.  One billion women dancing is a revolution."  Tickets are $5 (purchase them here) and the proceeds will go to CONNECT.  To learn about the many other events going on city wide, click the image below.

First Came Love, Now Comes Marriage!

It is with great excitement that Newsletter announces the engagement of CVTC staff member Joanna Santa-Berrio to her loving partner Ariel.  Our dear friend left for a week in Puerto Rico with a boyfriend and returned to work with a fiancé.  No doubt her best vacation ever! Congratulations, Joanna and Ariel.
