Back to Basics 2013! This Saturday, January 26th!
The 7th annual Back to Basics is this Saturday, January 26th at the Pine River-Backus High School. Workshops are filling up and the only way to reserve your spot is to give us a call at 218-587-2303.
We've got a great lineup of workshops for you to pick from. For example, if you want to learn about solar energy, Jason Edens of RREAL, will teach you the basics on solar panels and give a tour of some local solar installations. If you're looking at ways to help support your community, BJ Allen of the Pine River Market Square and Arlene Jones of SproutMN will discuss the importance of keeping your food and money local. Sarah Hayden of Creative Energy Services is hosting a workshop that will give you the tricks you need to reduce your energy bill. We even have several workshops lined up with Abbie Schramm of B&B Goat Goods. She'll first show you the basics of soapmaking and then go into the fundamentals of running a hobby farm. This is only a small sampling of the workshops available. Take a look at the Back to Basics brochure to get a full list.
This year will boast one of the largest vendor areas to date. There are plenty of booths that will give you answers on how best to take your first steps toward sustainability. Not to mention, there will be plenty of good sustainable products to choose from.
Like always, we offer a kids program for the day. For only $15 your K-6 child can have a fun day filled with environmentally themed activities. Lunch is included, too!
We also have a great keynote speaker lined up. Charles Marohn of Strong Towns will give you examples of why it's important and how to makeyour town sustainable. Charles will speak on How Ordinary People Can Do Extraordinary Things. Charles has been speaking on the topic of creating sustainable communities for years. Here's a TED Talk he did a while back.
This day will be loaded with good times and fun people. Just a reminder - walk-ins are welcome, but to guarantee your workshop choices, advance registration is recommended. Just give us a call at 218-587-2303.
See you this Saturday!
