When will Spring be here?!

We are loving the snows we have been receiving since we know the ground needs to soak up as much moisture as it can get!  At the same time, we are always battling impatience this time of year to get outside and work the soil.  Luckily, there are a number of events in March put on by local gardening and urban farming groups to help us celebrate the coming of Spring!

Speaking of which, please join us on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 from 6-10pm upstairs at the Mercury Cafe for a festive evening of local art, music, food, and communityAll ages are welcome at Sprout Down--bring the kiddos!

$7-15 suggested at the door; entry includes 2 tickets for tasty bites by:
The Queen Anne Urban Bed & Breakfast,
Hanson's Grill & Tavern,
The Garden Restaurant,
and The Truffle Cheese Shop.
Additional food tickets may be purchased.

Shop our silent & live auction featuring goods & services from Denver artisans & businesses, listen to local musicians Glenn Ross & Jim Angell and Anna Avery, and enjoy the company of folks in your community

All proceeds will directly benefit Sprout City Farms and its programs at the Denver Green School Community Farm.

Can't wait to see you there!!

GreenLeaf's "Dance Your Plants Off"

Dance Your Plants Off... for GreenLeaf!

Another partner of ours, GreenLeaf, is hosting its 3rd annual dance party fundraiser on Saturday, March 9th from 7pm-midnight at 1644 Platte St. in Denver.
Featuring a night of dancing, live music, snacks, local beer, a silent auction and more, all for $15 suggested at the door.

In addition to being a great party, the event will celebrate the kick-off to their yearly online fundraising campaign for summer programming. GreenLeaf hopes that summer 2013 will be filled with amazing youth, thousands of pounds of fresh produce grown on their two small farms, community camaraderie and more!
CSA Family at the DGS Community Farm
Only a few spots left in the CSA program!

For those of you new to the idea, here's how it works:
1) Sign up for a share in the spring.
2) Come to the farm every Wednesday June-Oct. to pick up your fresh produce.
3) Volunteer on the farm (8 hours total for the season).
By participating in the CSA program, you and your family will feel part of a community, get to know your farmers and shake the hands that grow your food, enjoy deliciously fresh veggies and herbs all summer and fall, learn more about the food system, and support our community efforts, including the Farm-to-Cafeteria Program which supplies the Denver Green School kitchen at no extra cost to the school!  The program is tailored to those who live or work close to the farm, but all are welcome.
Check out the CSA page of our website for more info, and email Farmer Meg to sign up!

Chickens coming soon to the DGS Community Farm!

Chickens coming soon to the DGS Community Farm!

We are so egg-cited we can hardly contain ourselves!  In a few short weeks, students at the Denver Green School will be hatching out eggs in their classrooms for our first flock of hens!  It will be such an incredible experience for the kids to raise the birds themselves, and we'll also be happy to close the nutrient loop a bit outside on the farm :D  Thanks to those in Denver who have helped pave the way for urban dwellers to raise chickens!
