Gould Evans' Bob Baum (Principal in Charge) and Aaron Thornton (Project Designer) will lead a tour of 750 Second Street, a new condominium project that recalls and enhances the surrounding South End Historic District. Attendees will learn how 750 Second Street incorporates innovative sustainability features, as well as how it was designed to blend imaginatively into the bustling South End.

2013 Design Awards Call for Entries
Submit a project for the 2013 AIA San Francisco Design Awards through February 14 at 1:00 pm. AIASF's awards program recognizes outstanding achievements in architecture and design from Bay Area individuals and organizations. This year, we introduce a new category: the 25 Year Award. This is a unique opportunity for architects and homeowners to showcase the positive impact of great residential design in our community, and members and nonmembers are encouraged to apply. Small Firms, Great Projects celebrates exceptional Bay Area architecture by showcasing the innovative and award-winning work of local design professionals. The exhibition introduces viewers to firms experienced in a wide range of work, including new residences and remodels, commercial and retail spaces, and more.

  • The AIASF International Committee and the US Commercial Service announce an opportunity for Bay Area firms specializing in stadium design, hotels, medical and support facilities. Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup, and in February the Qatar Supreme FIFA Committee will tour the West Coast to meet firms that could play a role in its success.   • Looking for ways to earn more Intern Development Program (IDP) hours outside the office?   • Kuth / Ranieri's Byron Kuth, FAIA and Liz Ranieri, FAIA were also featured in the Chronicle for Folding Water, their designs for a new kind of shoreline protection, which could combat sea level rise on the San Francisco Bay.
  • The San Francisco Department of the Environment has released the Pest Prevention By Design Guidelines, a new, peer-reviewed resource for designing buildings that are more resistant to common pests. The free guidelines were funded by the US Centers for Disease Control, and you can access them here.
