Some new... and not so new offerings this month!
The second story about Clementine-Rose by Jacqueline Harvey is out now.  Clementine-Rose lives in a big house with a tea-cup pig called Lavender.  She wears beautiful clothes and has a curious mind and vivid imagination.  Suitable for 6-9 year olds, this is a sweet series.

Event with Jacqueline Harvey!
We will be at Preston Library on March 21st at 4pm with Jacqueline.  She will be talking about Clementine-Rose and her other series, Alice-Miranda, which is aimed at girls 8-11.  Bookings are to be made at the library or on the Darebin Library website by clicking here.
In early January Australian author and illustrator Jan Ormerod died.  She was the writer of many a picture book and of two particular favourites of ours.  When there were small people in our house, Sunshine & it's companion book, Moonlight were read and reread many times.  They are unusual because they are wordless picture books, which some people find difficult.  We made up a our own story about the little girl whom we named Rachel, as she went about the simple tasks of getting up in the morning in Sunshine, and in getting ready for bed in Moonlight.  There is much to love about these books, and Jan Ormerod will be missed.  $16.95 each

Open This Little Book is a gorgeous book, within a book, within a book... within a book!  A lovely story about friendship from debut author Jesse Klausmeier accompanied by genius book creator Suzy Lee, this is a beautifully made book , perfect for 3's & up. It's currently also taking pride of place in our window.
We recently found out that Nick Place, the author of the OK Team and The OK Team 2 grew up in Fairfield, and until recently lived here as well. He has now moved, but not too far away.  The books feature a boy called Hazy Retina who  has an unusual problem in that he finds it hard to stay in focus and the problem is worse when he is stressed or embarrassed.  His parents try to tell him he is special, but he knows he is just weird.  Hazy's life takes a turn when at a meeting of other kids with 'issues' Hazy realizes he is 'super', so he joins forces with some others and they become super heroes. Costume design is fraught with difficulties, and interviews for prospective team members can be on the bizarre side with more enthusiasm than talent sometimes. Street names will be familiar to many, and the OK Team's haunt is now demolished, but was on Wingrove St. Good fun, especially for boys 9-13 years. $14.95.
Shamini Flint has continued her series of books with a sport theme, aimed at children who aren't enthusiastic readers, but who love sport.  The first two were Diary of a Cricket God and Diary of a Soccer Star.  Diary of a Taekwondo Master and Diary of a Rugby Champ are the two new titles to suit even more sports fanatics! They have a cartoonish look and are quite short, so if you know a sporty type who finds the Wimpy Kid books a bit too long, they might like these titles.  $10 each.
Not as much fun as some of our usual fare, but these Naplan style workbook from School Zone have been popular. Well, with parents anyway! There are writing, numeracy, reading & language books for both year 3 & year 5 levels.   All $9.95
