AFFIRMATION OF VICTORIA’S MULTICULTURAL SUCCESS

A coalition of Victorian organisations and individuals, including ECCV, have come together to reaffirm in a joint statement their support of Victoria’s multicultural and multifaith community.
Read their joint statement here.

ECCV media releases
* Multiculturalism in Victoria is a success and something Victorians are proud of, the ECCV says.
Despite Dutch anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders beginning his Australian speaking tour today, the ECCV is confident Victorians are tolerant and proud enough of their diversity to make up their own minds when faced with anti-multicultural campaigns. MORE

* The ECCV welcomes a police review into cross cultural training, “field contacts” and data collection announced today.
A settlement was reached in a race discrimination case to begin today in the Federal Court of Australia, whereby six young African-Australians claimed Victoria Police targeted them because of their ethnicity. MORE

Water hyacinth

Water hyacinth - not wanted here!
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is raising awareness that the water hyacinth is a noxious weed in Australia. In Victoria it is a prohibited weed and against the law to buy or sell water hyacinth. Selling or sharing these plants in the community is against the law. It is also against the law to place this plant in a local waterway.
If you let us know that you have water hyacinth plants there will not be a penalty and we will remove and safely dispose of the plants.
Please call 136 186 or email weed.spotters@dpi.vic.gov.au if you have water hyacinth. MORE

Be Heard! Have your say through FECCA's 2012-13 Access and Equity Survey
Each year, FECCA conducts Access and Equity consultations across Australia to learn about the experiences of CALD people in accessing Government services in a range of areas including employment, education, health, aged care services and more. As part of this process, an online survey is developed to gather additional feedback from CALD Australians, which will subsequently be provided to Government on how effective the services it provides are, and where opportunities for improvement exist.
The survey is specifically designed to obtain the insights and opinions of people from CALD backgrounds and takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. MORE

Strategic and business planning tools for Victorian NFPs
Victoria’s not for profit (NFP) community organisations are being required to operate in an increasingly complex and changing environment; dealing with challenges including unprecedented population growth, an ageing population, housing affordability, and rapid advances in information technology.
Victoria’s Office for the Community Sector (OCS) has engaged Social Traders to undertake a project which is all about supporting organisations to plan for their future.
The Strategic and Business Planning Tools project aims to support NFP community organisations to undertake sound and relevant business planning processes assisted by a suite of online tools and resources.
The OCS and Social Traders welcome the input of NFPs via an online survey.
Survey results will be published by the OCS in the coming months and will lead to the development of useful, practical support to improve strategic and business planning and to build capacity in this important area.
