Lenten Appeal Prayers 2013  |  Week 1

Dear Supporter,

Here are our first prayers and a little more information on some of the projects. We hope you will continue to pray with us throughout Lent.

Blessings,
from the team at Anglican Missions

Transit House - Papua New Guinea
The Diocese of Aipo Rongo in Papua New Guinea is working towards becoming self sufficient. They are building a Transit House in Mt Hagen to enable the Diocese to raise it's own money. This project raises funds for the remaining plumbing, electrical fittings, doors, painting, beds and bedding, and whiteware.

Pray for the Transit House to be completed and provide a safe housing option for those travelling through Mount Hagen. Give thanks for the Diocese of Aipo Rongo and Bishop Nathan, and St Michael's Parish for looking for sustainable options for supporting their Diocese.
The Transit House is a mini hostel/inn/hotel for the travelling public. It will also be used by people from all walks of life including priests, bishops, catechists and other church workers whenever they are in town conducting church business. The Diocese of Aipo Rongo already has a smaller Transit House in operation which has proven to be viable, therefore the Diocese and local parish St Michael’s are venturing into a much bigger one.

There is a shortage of good and safe accommodation in Papua New Guinea. The Diocese of Aipo Rongo and St Michael’s Parish can help to provide this service in Mount Hagen, the third largest city in Papua New Guinea.

Mission Support - Polynesia
Support the clergy of Polynesia. About 21 stipendiary clergy and 6 non-stipendiary clergy are supported by this Anglican Missions Board project. This is in recognition of the evangelism, mission and outreach work that they are involved with which is an on-going programme of the Diocese.

Thank you Creator God for our moana and whenua,
For the islands and oceans you have gifted us,
The fish and birds, animals and plants,
Men, women and children,
Teach us to look out for each other,
And care for all your creation.
Make us good neighbours,
Make us willing agents,
Make us yours in Pasefika.    Amen.

Prayer from Rev Amy Chambers, Diocese of Polynesia
These three priests are all non-stipendiary clergy assisted by Anglican Missions (AMB). Reverends Jeke and Joji are at St Michael’s and All Angels, Church, Matata, a settlement in Lami town, just outside Suva, on the Queen’s Highway.  Their ministry is mostly to people from other parts of Fiji who come to Suva for work or tertiary study. The church at Matata was a recipient of a water tank, donated by the AAW NZ and organized through the AMB.

Revd Demesi is priest-in-charge at the Church of the Holy Family, Waidradra, in Pacific Harbour, an hours’ drive from Suva on the Queen’s highway.  Demesi’s mission area covers the town of Navua; Pacific Harbour, with its hotels, residential and holiday villas, and the village of Waidradra where the church is situated. The ecumenical chapel at Pacific Harbour is venue to many tourist weddings. The church at Waidradra, also received a water tank from the AAW, NZ.

L to R: Revd Jeke Abunio, Revd Joji Abunio and Revd Demesi Sitei

Ordinands in Training - Iran
The Ordinand Training project aims to provide trained pastoral leadership to those serving the Anglican Church in Iran. This is an amazing step for the future of the Church in Iran.

We pray for the Diocese of Iran and for the three ordinands as they undergo leadership training; may they be given wisdom and strength.

The Anglican presence in Iran can be traced as far back as the early 1800’s when Anglican pioneers like Henry Martyn translated the Scriptures into Persian. Since these beginnings the Anglican Church has always been missional and compassionate towards her context in Iran, both pre and post the Revolution of 1979.

Tech for Kids - Palestine, Jerusalem
Tech for Kids will help a school to buy computers, chairs, and a server for their technology department in order to create more opportunities for the children of Palestine.

"The God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, we ask you to watch over our school, our students and our staff. Give us the strength to fulfill our mission and to raise our students in a way to give them knowledge, faith, hope, and good will. Guide your people to spread peace, real peace in the Land of Peace, let them understand that without love and forgiveness nothing can be achieved. To him be the glory and dominion forever and ever." Prayer from ETVTC
Founded in 2001, the Episcopal Technological & Vocational Training Center (ETVTC) in Ramallah, Palestine, is one of the youngest educational ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. The Center provides quality technological education for 420 students in grades 7 – 10 from five private schools and two government schools. Students are provided with guidance counseling to explore vocations and educational opportunities suited to their aptitudes and abilities.
