Dr. James Parker named VP for
student development and enrollment


President Hanson has announced that Dr. James Parker will be the next vice president for student development and enrollment at Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College. Parker served as vice president for student affairs at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania last year. As the chief student affairs officer, he oversaw all aspects of student affairs for the university. His duties begin July 1. [read more]

Comoros signing

Bemidji State signs exchange agreement with University of the Comoros
BSU and the University of the Comoros, a publicly owned institution in the Comoros Islands founded in 2003, have signed a memorandum of understanding that sets the groundwork for faculty and student exchanges between the institutions. The Union of the Comoros is a sovereign archipelago island nation in the Indian Ocean, located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel approximately 200 miles off the eastern coast of Africa. [read more]

Neilson Foundation internships re-funded
BSU is again partnering with the George W. Neilson Foundation to offer businesses in the Bemidji area with an opportunity to hire students for internship positions. The foundation is offering 14 internships to businesses within 30 miles of Bemidji. One will be specifically for health and nursing, and 13 are for any other private business pertaining to any major or program offered by BSU or Northwest Technical College. [read more]

Summer school registration now open
Registration opened on Feb. 25 for hundreds of summer school classes at BSU. Classes are offered in a variety of formats, including traditional on-campus classroom experiences, courses that are offered completely online, and blended experiences that combine classroom and online learning. [read more]



Bemidji State hosts 10th MNTRiO Day
Bemidji State's TRiO programs hosted Minnesota's 10th annual MNTRiO Day on Feb. 16. More than 250 high school students from Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Talent Search and Upward Bound Math Science programs from around the state attended workshops and a college fair and listened to guest speaker Craig Hiller of Leading Edge Seminars. [photo gallery]

VITA students

Accounting students offering free income tax assistance

BSU students who have completed the Tax I course and passed Internal Revenue Service certification tests are donating their time to residents of Bemidji for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The students are staffing free on-campus workshops Wednesday and Thursday afternoons until April 11 (with the exception of March 13-14, due to spring break). The workshops are open between 3 and 6 p.m. in Decker 14. [read more]

Bemidji School of Nursing inducts 50 for 2013 cohort

The Bemidji School of Nursing officially inducted 50 students into the 2013 cohort of BSU's four-year baccalaureate program during a Feb. 16 induction and scholarship ceremony in the Beaux Arts Ballroom. The school also announced the winners of its 2013-14 scholarships, followed by a “white coat ceremony” in which the inductees had their name tags affixed to their lab coats to mark their transition into the study of professional nursing. [read more]

Beaver Athletics Update
 

The BSU men's basketball team went on the road and toppled 21st-ranked Winona State, 74-72, in Saturday's NSIC Tournament quarterfinal, advancing to the conference semifinals in Rochester this weekend. It is BSU's second consecutive trip to the conference semifinals. BSU enters Friday's bout with Upper Iowa on a five-game winning streak. The win over Winona State improved the Beavers to 17-11 overall, including a 3-2 mark against nationally-ranked opponents.
