SWU Baseball to Host NGU Wednesday at Fluor Field

The Warriors will play at the home of Greenville Drive at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, March 13. Southern Wesleyan baseball will be hosting North Greenville University in a single non-conference game at Fluor Field at the West End. Read more>>

Fine Arts: Jesus Christ Superstar starts Friday


March 15-16, 7:30 p.m.; March 22, 7:30 p.m.; March 23, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

This year’s student production, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” will feature a reverent staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical interpretation of the events of Holy Week. Join the cast and crew in a powerful experience of the final week of Christ’s life in music and song, and encounter the Gospel as presented in a fresh, respectful way including Christ’s resurrection. The musical will be held in Folger Fine Arts Auditorium on the university’s campus in Central. For details, call ext. 5191 or go online to swu.edu/finearts. SWU professor serves on panel

 
Dr. Lavinia Anderson, assistant professor of education in the School of Education, recently served on a literacy panel at the South Carolina International Reading Association’s 38th annual Literacy Conference, Feb. 21-23 at Myrtle Beach. Serving on the panel were literacy professors from across the state. They discussed common core standards, teacher evaluation and the use of technology in the classroom.

SWU graduate heading to Mozambique


Michelle Bryant, a 1992 SWU graduate, will soon travel to Mozambique to work with children of missionaries during the African Area Missions Retreat, organized by Global Partners, a missions organization within The Wesleyan Church. Bryant, a 1992 graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, grew up on the mission field and has taken several mission trips, including three trips to Haiti following their devastating 2010 earthquake. Free event highlights family history


The Reunion of Upcountry Families will be April 25-27 and includes family history workshops, cemetery tours and historic family displays. Pictured is one of many family displays on the SWU campus at last year’s event, sort of a "swap meet" for sharing family information. Read more>>

Get involved in the Regional Science Fair

The Regional Science Fair is this Friday! According to Staci Johnson, the event's coordinator, volunteers are still needed. She is looking for help in the following areas:
 
Hospitality Room - help set-up and maintain the snacks and drinks in the Hospitality Room (Mitchell Conference Room) and answer questions of parents or teachers.
 
End of Fair Tasks - help distribute goody bags to students, as well as assistance in returning all items from Founders to Gibson Science Bldg.
 
Assist Science Club with sessions - help man the various sessions developed by the Science Club. A background in science in not required - just a desire to assist students and make them feel welcome on our campus.

Cellphones for Soldiers

Got an old cellphone or two lying around? Donate it to help purchase calling cards for our troops. Please drop off your old cellphones in the Office of Financial Aid now through April 9. It doesn’t matter if they are working or broken. Each one helps a soldier call home. Tell your friends! Details are online at www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.

Benefit for Sandy Victims

 
Andy Cooney will bring his 2013 Forever Irish Show to Southern Wesleyan University again this year. This show, which has been very popular in the past, will be at the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center March 20 at 7:30p.m. The net proceeds for the evening will go to Oconee Men’s Outreach, which has been and is helping Hurricane Sandy victims in Breezy Point and Far Rockaway, N.Y. Posters about the show can be seen at the SWU Bookstore, the Post Office bulletin board and at the cafeteria. For tickets and information, contact Tom Brosnan at (864) 944-5762 and be sure to ask for the special price for all SWU students, faculty members and University employees.

Holiday Schedule

Good Friday, a university-wide holiday, falls on March 29. All university offices will be closed and there will be no classes that day. The campus will resume its normal schedule on Monday, April 1.
