Altaeros Energies is an early-stage company working to bring the first airborne wind turbine to market. Altaeros turbines hold the potential to deliver cheap renewable energy to rural, island, and offshore sites that face high electricity costs.

Internships available:

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Intern

Assist in design and testing of its breakthrough Airborne Wind Turbine (AWT). The Altaeros AWT uses a helium-filled, inflatable shell adapted from proven aerospace technology to lift a wind turbine up to 600m in the air, harnessing winds over five times as strong as those that a tower can reach.

Experimental Data Analysis & Model Validation Intern
Assume a key role in developing data analysis and model validation
software for use on our summer 2013 prototype and subsequent systems. The summer 2013 prototype is intended to demonstrate extended, high-wind performance, compared with Altaeros’ first prototype, flown in the winter of 2012.

Electronic Hardware Intern

Assume a key role in installing and maintaining the electronics suite for
our summer, 2013 flight prototype. This prototype is intended to demonstrate extended, high-wind performance, compared with Altaeros’ first prototype, flown in the winter of 2012.

Energy Intelligence is developing the first cost-effective road-based energy harvesting solution and is looking for talented, ambitious, and self-motivated summer interns to help drive the company forward. The company was founded in 2010 and has made tremendous progress in IP protection, technology development and design, and market traction. As a 2012 Cleantech Open Semi-finalist, Energy Intelligence was awarded the 2012 Cleantech Innovations New England Award.
Internships available:

Business Development Intern
This internship will be centered around relationship development and management with potential customers, technical partners, and funding sources.

Research Analyst
This internship will be centered around market research in several directions: optimal site selection, target segment analysis, partnership and expansion opportunities (U.S. and Global), and funding opportunities.

Creative-engineering Intern
This internship will be technical in nature and centered around validation and optimization of the company's electro-mechanical devices/system. However, the role calls for the application of conventional engineering principals with a very creative mindset -- examples of work to be completed include: (1) Defining metrics to estimate impact to driver or vehicle when passing over Energy Intelligence devices and incorporating measurement into optimization models; (2) Identifying ideal conditions for installation sites based on balance of device performance and user experience.

Dynamo Micropower is a small power products company that is developing a cost competitive small gas turbine for use in small distributed generation applications. We have an innovative approach to microturbine design and manufacturing that allows for rapid iteration, rapid deployment, and rapid
innovation. Furthermore we plan to disrupt modern small power generation with our technology, eventually supplanting reciprocating engines as the dominant source of small power with a solution that is more reliable and requires less maintenance.

Internships available:

Product Design Intern

This is a design position; the intern will take our core technology and design a packaged product around it. The intern will conduct primary research on existing products and create a comparable design for our product.

Scientific Computing & Software Intern
This work will augment the user interface and functionalities of Dynamo’s existing in-house design software by improving code organization, creating an easy-to-use command-line interface, implementing a graphical user interface, and directing the design code output to a CAD program to update engine CAD model automatically.
