When it comes to the area of special needs, the iPad has opened the door to a whole new world of educational opportunities and expanded communication.  No longer does an individual "in need" have to struggle with getting the simplest of ideas across.

At App Treasure Hunter, we are building a database of apps for just this purpose.  With additional inspiration from interviews, such as this very endearing episode on 60 Minutes, we knew that this was an area we wanted to support.

Special needs apps can run anywhere from free to hundreds of dollars, depending on how extensive they are.  We have reviewed many that are free, or very reasonably priced.  If you are looking for special needs type apps, we suggest you view our apps in other categories like cognitive skills and apps for the ages 0 – 5.  Many of these are very appropriate for a child needing basic skills.

Our lead reviewer has said on numerous occasions what a difference his autistic cousin's life would have been like, if the current technology was available when he was growing up.  Not to mention the lives of those around him.  We have Steve Jobs and Apple to thank for this!
