CMP approved and ready for implementation
The Minister for Environment and Climate Change the Hon Ryan Smith, MP has approved the Great Ocean Road Coast
Committee (GORCC) Coastal Management Plan (CMP) with implementation set to begin in July 2013.
The CMP identifies four significant challenges facing the coast - climate change, population and development, protection of the natural environment and financial and other resources and outlines GORCC's strategic responses to them.
The CMP has been developed via an open, comprehensive and collaborative process which has included extensive
consultation with key stakeholders and the broader community, targeted research and review of a large amount of reference material.
Key features of the CMP include:
-
Background information detailing GORCC’s role, structure and management area, the planning context and the plan preparation process.
-
Identification of four significant challenges in managing the coast and GORCC’s strategic responses to them.
-
A strategic framework which outlines GORCC’s vision,
-
mission, guiding principles and objectives.
-
Comprehensive action plans featuring short, medium and long term actions across all areas of coastal management.
-
A Business Plan to guide expenditure on the implementation of the CMP
-
A Monitoring and Review section detailing key performance indicators that will be used to measure and evaluate the CMP’s implementation.
GORCC would like to thank the organisations represented on the Agency Working Group, the dedicated members of the
Community Reference Group and the wider community, all of whom had extensive input into the development of the CMP.

Monitoring and review
GORCC will monitor and evaluate the implementation of the CMP to ensure it is effective and is achieving the desired outcomes along the coast. The results of this process will be used to continually improve implementation and to keep stakeholders, including the wider community, informed of progress.
A key part of this process will be input from the community which will be facilitated via an annual meeting of the Community Reference Group (CRG). For more information on the role this group will play and how you can get involved, see below.

Ongoing role of the Community Reference Group
Input will be sought from the community regarding their views on the
omplementation of the CMP and its actions. This will be facilitated via an annual meeting of the Community Reference Group (CRG).
Existing members of the CRG will automatically be nominated to remain on the group, however, if you would like to submit an expression of interest to be part of the group, please contact our office and we will provide you with an expression of interest form. Those interested in getting involved are encouraged to apply for a position as early as possible to ensure they are able to be involved over the life of the CMP.
