Dear Friends
Some of you may know the old Taoist tale of the elderly Chinese men who always had tea together…
It is worth reading again, it illustrates beautifully how our perception and judgment of life situation creates our reality.
 
“ One man was older than the other three, so they came to his house every morning for tea. One day one of the three asked, ‘Old man, how go things with you? Is there any good news?’ his reply was immediate: ‘Well who can say? Who can say what is good or bad?’ Another responded, ‘Tell us what happened since yesterday!’ He replied, ‘Yesterday my son was working the horses and the gate broke, and they got out and ran away.’ The others said, ‘Oh, bad news! Bad fortune! Bad fortune!’ But the old man’s remarks were calm and quiet: ‘Well who can say what is good or bad.’
 
The following day they returned for tea, asking for news of the missing horses. The old man replied, ‘Well the two horses that ran away came back last night, and they brought with them thirteen more wild horses. My son had repaired the corral, and now we have fifteen horses.’ To this the group shouted together, ‘Oh, good news! Good fortune, old man!’ Thoughtfully the old man replied, ‘Well who can say what is good or bad.’
 
The next day they came even earlier, inquiring of the recent events. The old man said, ‘My son was trying to break some of the wild horses and he fell off one and broke his ankle.’ In a chorus the others chanted, ‘oh, bad fortune! Bad fortune!’ The old man, in his reflective way simply replied, ‘Well who can say what is good or bad.’
 
The three village men came again the following morning asking how the old man’s son was and whether there was any more news they should know about. The old man replied, ‘Well after you left us yesterday, the army came about conscripting soldiers. My son did not have to go because he had a broken ankle.’ Ah! Good fortune! Good fortune! The three intoned. 
 
And so life goes on and on,… I invite you to experience life as it is really happening without concern for judgment; to make conscious choices and create wonders.
