Challenge Course Dedication

Lemons published in journal

The journal Science picked Paula P. Lemons and J. Derrick Lemons’ recently published paper entitled “Questions for Assessing Higher-Order Cognitive Skills: It’s Not Just Bloom’s” as a highlighted Editors’ Choice paper on March 22. Both are 1994 SWU graduates and also faculty members at the University of Georgia.

Alumni Awards Lunch

The Alumni Association would like to invite all faculty and staff to the 2013 Alumni Awards Lunch, April 13 at Noon at the Founders. Awardees are Col. Tonya Hagmaier, Shasta Looper, Dr. Rhonda Littleton and Alex Baxter. Please purchase your tickets at the Alumni Center for $15. The deadline is April 8. Call Joan Crain at Ext. 5384.

SWU Business students at top of competition

Katie Stilwell, Raphael Fernandes and Claudio Sanches earned a Global Top 100 ranking for their company's Business Strategy Game performance during the week of March 13-24. According to John Frazier, business professor, they will be tied for first place with about 15 teams from around the country. There are currently more than 4,700 teams competing from over 280 colleges and universities globally.

Staff Council update

The Staff Council is pleased to announce that the university’s administration has approved the request for an extended Independence Day holiday weekend. This year, July 4 falls on a Thursday and the Staff Council made a recommendation to SWU’s administration, which was approved, to designate Friday, July 5 as a university holiday. University offices will be closed July 4 and 5 and will reopen on July 8. Any additional leave requests around these dates are subject to your supervisor’s approval. So start making your plans now for an extended weekend! 

SWU Columbia part of Career Expo

SWU's Columbia education center is taking part in the Famously Hot Career and Talent Expo April 11, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. This a one of a kind collaboration between 10 colleges and universities that will strive to connect graduates to employment in a way that has never been done before.

“In partnering with the Graduation Imperative, we hope to create unique opportunities for Southern Wesleyan students, recent graduates, and alumni,” said Dennis Scheidt, regional director of Southern Wesleyan’s Columbia education center. “The Famously Hot Career Expo is an excellent example that will give SWU students and alumni the ability to connect with more than 50 hiring companies from the Midlands region.”

Kid's Day

Fine Arts this week

SWU music majors are featured in the Music Majors Formal Recital Friday afternoon, April 5, at 4:30 p.m. This end-of-the-semester presentation will showcase the achievements of the music majors. The recital will be held in the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. Admission is free. For details, call ext. 5408.

Wellness Week will be April 15 – 17. Activities include:

April 15-17 - Wellness Week Chapels with Nicole Braddock Bromley – Nicole will share her journey from victim to victory over impossible circumstances. She will speak at chapels at 10 a.m. April 15 and 17 and also an evening chapel at 7:30 p.m. April 16. Learn more about Nicole from her website.

Athletic Department offers online compliance rules education course

The Southern Wesleyan University Athletic Department has launched an online rules education resource for compliance. This is a free course offered through Udemy.com designed to educate coaches, student-athletes, faculty/staff and the SWU community on the rules and regulations of the NCAA, conference and Southern Wesleyan University.
