Directors Message
Hello Pennsadores
I wanted to begin this week’s message by sincerely congratulating the Latino Coalition Festival Latino Board and the Latino Coalition Board for putting together a very exciting diverse and wonderful series of programs for Festival Latino 2013 this past week. I had the great honor of attending many of the events and was inspired to see your energy, creativity and hard work in action. Thank you so much for your dedication to this Penn Latino community tradition which is now on its 31st anniversary. Your theme PENNSANDO was very appropriate for the variety of events put together. Last year we asked students to send us ideas for a T-Shirt design and word that would capture the true essence of a Penn Latino/a students and Pennsadores was the word that everyone most liked and Pedro Reyes (then a senior, now successful Alumni), created a beautiful design for the word and the t-shirt, that we hope to be able to produce as La Casa Latina official T-Shirt. Pennsadores describes the critical element of education; question, always question what you are learning until you reach a true understanding of the subject matter from a multi-dimensional perspective and from the framework of multiple exploration of issues knowing that knowledge is an active purposeful action that continually grows, adapts and changes while forming you academically, socially and culturally.
It is a pleasure and honor for me/us working with all you, Pennsadores.
On another note, we know that this is pressure time of the semester with papers and assignment deadlines and spring events on campus, please remember to let us know if we can help and stay healthy and focused on your work. Hope to see you soon.

Take Back the Night is a peaceful protest to speak out against domestic and sexual violence. Penn's Take Back the Night begins with a rally on College Green, followed by a march across campus, and finally, a survivor speak-out and candlelight vigil. This year, Amy Richards, creator of the Third Wave Foundation and author of Manifesta, will be the keynote speaker of the rally.

Mental Wellness Week (Co-Sponsored by La Casa Latina)

Mental Wellness Week (MWW) is a week-long series of events dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues on campus and decreasing the stigma around discussing them. This year, from March 29 to April 5 , MWW is hosting Deconstruct the Penn Face. Penn Face refers to the image Penn students feel they need to project in order to fit in with the rest of the community. Let's shed our masks and stand together.

Puentes de Salud's after school education & wellness program: This program aims to support the development of strong academic skills, self esteem, and healthy behaviors in 60 South Philly Latino children with the goal of addressing the larger social environment that impacts the health of the community. Please consider signing up to volunteer.
Tutoring sessions are held:

Women’s Medical Fund (WMF) provides financial and other assistance to low-income women and teens who wish to terminate a pregnancy but lack the resources for an abortion. Access Counselors staff the help line providing direct services such as financial assistance, information and referrals to the women and teens who call. A position is available for Summer 2013.
