SWU to award more than 300 degrees

Four-year degrees coming to Easley

Tri-County Technical College President Ronnie Booth, left, and Southern Wesleyan University President Todd Voss signed an agreement May 1 that will bring four-year degree programs to the Easley area. Read more>>

Student Teacher of the Year

Dr. Paul Shotsberger, dean of the School of Education at Southern Wesleyan University presented Mary Kathryn Rash with the Student Teacher of the Year Award during the school's division chapel May 1 on the campus in Central. Read more>>

New Track/Soccer facility

Heavy equipment prepares the site of the new track and soccer complex, located beside the main entrance of the Central campus. SWU Athletics hopes to have the facility usable by the end of August.

'Inventive' summer camp at SWU

Camp Invention, a summer day camp full of “real world” challenges with a fun twist, is returning to SWU June 17-21. In partnership with Invent Now Kids, the nationally-acclaimed, week-long camp is for children entering grades one through six. Read more>>

Retirement reception

All faculty and staff are invited to attend a retirement reception May 14, beginning at 3 p.m. in The Founders. The following employees are being honored:

  • Judy Black, associate registrar; retired in December with 26 years
  • James Bowen, professor of accounting; retiring in May with 27 years
  • Vicki Hayes, director of student accounts/student accounts representative; retiring in June with 27 years
  • Winnie Molloseau, administrative assistant to the vice president for student life; retired in January with 26 years
  • Carol Sinnamon, director of counseling and health services; retired in December with 27 years
  • Walt Davison has served as library assistant for 12 years and will be experiencing his second retirement in June.

This will be a great opportunity to extend your congratulations to these colleagues who have served God and SWU well. Light refreshments will be served.

Memorial Day

The university will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.  All university offices will be closed that day across the state and will reopen on Tuesday, May 28.

McKinney interning at Alumni Office

Carissa McKinney has accepted an internship position in the Office of Alumni. She is a 2012 Media Communication graduate. During this six-month internship, McKinney's responsibilities will be mostly event planning, the major event being the 2013 Homecoming Oct 26.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity to learn and to build experience that will enhance future job opportunities," McKinney said. She will be located in the Alumni Office and her extension is 5383.

Turned Upside Down

Laura Tossey Austin, a Pre Med graduate of SWU, has been working with her husband Chris to complete a movie, Turned Upside Down, which deals with a man who looks back at a rough time in his youth when nothing seemed to go his way. Details can be found on Facebook and you can view the trailer on YouTube.

5k Race to benefit Pickens County YMCA

The race will start at SunTrust Bank in downtown Easley at 8 a.m. May 18. All proceeds benefit the Pickens County YMCA Share the Spirit Fund, which helps children learn the skills they need to succeed at life and provide adults with programs to help them towards attaining a healthy lifestyle. SWU employees will get a $5 registration discount. Race details and registration are online here.
