2013 Ride to the Capitol a Huge (& Chilly) Success!

The 8th annual Ride to the Capitol brought hundreds of cycling supporters to the gold dome in Atlanta - despite freezing temps and snow flurries. 20+ elected officials, including the Lt. Governor, addressed the die-hard crowd on the need for better bicycling conditions in Georgia. The day's highlight: watching a huge crowd of cyclists shout "Thanks, GDOT" for last year's adoption of a Complete Streets policy. Read on for more about the event, and thanks to everyone who came out!

Got Tags?

The "Share the Road" specialty car tags directly support statewide and local bike advocacy efforts in Georgia. Through the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, tag funds enable police training, PSAs, as well as our Seed GrantsSignage Grants and much more.

Having a "Share the Road" tag is an easy, convenient way to provide and display your support for a bicycle friendly Georgia. When you renew your tag, or purchase a new one, please request the "Share the Road" specialty tag!

GA Bike Summit Oct 18-20, 2013 in Roswell

Our 4th annual conference for transportation engineers, planners, elected officials and advocates will be held in Roswell, GA October 18-20th.

PSAs

Through our grant with GOHS, we have produced a number of radio and TV PSAs that promote road sharing, the 3' law, and safe cycling. Download and share these with your local media during Bike Month, and stay tuned for a new TV spot this summer!

GA Bikes Hosts Winning Campaigns Training

Over three days in April, 25 bike advocacy leaders representing 11 organizations from 3 states gathered in Athens, GA to learn from the Alliance for Biking & Walking - and from each other - how to define, develop, and execute a "winning campaign." The end result: nine winnable campaigns for signage, driver education, dedicated funding, and innovative infrastructure for communities from Greenville, SC to Birmingham, AL and all across Georgia.

Participants from Bicycle Columbus, Griffin Bicycle Coalition, and WeCycle Atlanta used a portion of their Seed Grant awards to pay for their training and travel expenses. Learn more about the training and participants at the Georgia Bikes blog.

Law Enforcement Training

Ever been told by an officer that you should ride on the sidewalk? Feel like a 2nd class road user just because you bike?
We're working hard to make sure GA's law enforcement officers know, understand, and enforce laws that protect your rights as a cyclist. We travel the state providing a free 2-hour class that covers state laws related to cyclist rights and responsibilities. Pictured above is our most recent training with the Clarkston PD.

Contact us to schedule a training with your local police  or Sheriff's department!

2013 National Bike Challenge

FREE, FUN, and EASY!
May 1st marked the start of both National Bike Month and the National Bike Challenge, an initiative organized by the League of American Bicyclists that encourages people to bike for transportation and recreation.

During the Challenge, which ends September 30th, you can track your miles ridden and rack up points on behalf of local teams, workplaces, or communities. Points are accumulated for both frequent riding and number of miles ridden. Reaching point benchmarks qualifies you for some pretty sweet prizes too. Just a few days into the Challenge, Georgia has 321 registered riders and nearly 30 teams! You can sign up at any time at NationalBikeChallenge.org
