Why is it that North America is one of the few places on the planet where insects are not consciously part of the food system? Is it time to change that?

EARLY BIRD DEADLINE June 9

Edible Bugs... I Dare You!
with special guest
chef Glenn Bergman of Weavers Way
early bird $29 plus $10 materials fee

In June, as part of a partnership with Morris Arboretum's summer bug exhibit and celebration, we will learn about (and taste) how cultures all over the world use bugs as part of their food supply. In addition to bugs, as always, we explore homesteading practices such as keeping backyard chickens, bees, mushrooms, composting worms, season extension, and brewing kefir and kombucha.

What You Get for $29
(plus $10 take-home mushroom materials fee)

The Up Close & Personal workshop includes:

  • exploration of modern day "homesteading"
  • tour with Q & A on season extension techniques, indoor composting with worms, aquaponics, backyard chickens, beekeeping, community organizing, and more...
  • hands on experience brewing kombucha and a take-home "scoby" starter for your own brewing

And, as if that weren't enough
an in depth focus each month ... this month on edible insects.

Each participant also receives electronically a half dozen documents that The Home Grown Institute has prepared on composting, natural cleaners, fermentation aquaponics and more.
